Yes, many people can find that drinking energy drinks makes it easier to increase their concentration and energy levels. However, because the effect wears off after a while, you may develop an addiction to another can of energy drinks to help you regain your energy. Many young teenagers are already addicted to energy drinks, as shown by the comments below the video, which is alarming.

It is true that it helps in increasing alertness and mental energy. However, energy drinks carry a lot of caffeine and sugar. Consuming sugar-sweetened beverages, such as most energy drinks, causes blood sugar spikes, which may be harmful to your health, especially if you have diabetes. However, even those who do not have diabetes should be careful about the sugar content in energy drinks. According to one study, drinking one or two sugar-sweetened drinks per day was correlated with a 26% higher risk of type 2 diabetes.

It is true that drinks containing caffeine and sugar can be bad for yourself, if consumed in excessive amount. But, energy drinks are consumed for a number of purposes. One of the most common is to improve brain function and thus increase mental alertness. Multiple studies have shown that energy drinks can increase brain function measures such as memory, attention, and reaction time while also reducing mental fatigue. In fact, one study found that drinking only 500ml can of the energy drink namely Red Bull improved concentration and memory by about 24%. Many researchers agree that the improvement in brain activity can be attributed solely to caffeine, whereas others believe that the combination of caffeine and sugar in energy drinks is needed to see the greatest gain.

Drinking energy drinks for when you needed it might improve mental alertness and memory in doing tasks or homeworks. In energy drinks, you are consuming a form of aspartame, a neurotoxin with metabolic, fetal, carcinogenic, and allergenic properties. You will feel drowsy after the effect wears off, which will make you crave another can. The loop then starts all over again. While energy drinks provide benefits such as increased mental alertness, they can also cause dangerous addiction due to their high sugar and caffeine content. It does not have any immediate effects, but it may have long-term consequences if consumed times and times again, especially for minors in Malaysia.

Although this may seem to be the case, to the point to ban it, many people are opposed to the concept. In order to reduce the take of caffeine for example, to minors, Malaysian government may take actions as proposed by American Beverage Associations instead of banning it. American Beverage Associations who come up with another proposal, volunteering recommendations for labelling energy drinks, which is that energy drinks would be labelled as 'not appropriate for children and people who are sensitive to caffeinated drinks'. To add on, energy drinks will not market their products to children under the age of 12, as set forth in the International Council of Beverages Associations (ICBH) Global Policy on marketing to children.

The idea of labelling energy drinks as unsuitable for children and not selling them to children under the age of 12 may seem feasible. However, it may necessitate a slew of legislation to ensure that the guidelines are strictly followed. This is because we cannot track every single purchase of energy drinks, and in certain situations, sellers can sell these drinks to anyone regardless of age in order to make a profit. This move will be difficult to implement in all countries, especially Malaysia. In this scenario, we should simply bar Malaysians under the age of 18 from consuming energy drinks, as they do more harm than good in years to come.
