My Family is where I learned my first and most used language interaction. I was raised in a monolingual family speaking English. I grew up in Texas but my parents were from places with different accents and slang used in the United States. For example my dad is from Boston, Massachusetts and had a thick accent when I was growing up. He would also use slang like wicked, carriage, and more that I would pick up on that other people did not use or understand from Texas. Lastly my mom was from California did not have an accent like my dad. Although her father, my grandfather immigrated here from Germany. Unfortunately I did not live near him but when I would go to visit he would speak German to me and I really enjoyed it.

I grew up going to school in San Antonio, Texas. Where the school Districts used English to teach and learn. I already knew that language growing up so it was easier for me to learn and understand because I spoke it at home with my family. However, I was exposed to other languages in my schooling years. For example in elementary school we took Spanish classes and in high school I took two years of American sign language. I loved and enjoyed learning about different languages in the classroom setting.

My friends have shaped the way that I speak English and interact with it very much. I communicate in English as most of my friends are like me and monolingual and only speak English. However, I also have been exposed to other languages with my friends. I have friends that speak Spanish, Vietnamese and Arabic. Hearing and Learning about these languages from my friends has vastly improved my language range.

I work at home goods which is a retail store. There I am a cashier and experience a wide range of language differences. I speak only English and that is the predominant language spoken at the store. However, we have many different people that speak a wide variety of languages. For example Spanish, Chinese, Arabic, Korean, and even American sign language. All the interaction that I have had with these people and there languages has been so fascinating. I loved hearing how they speak and interacting with English as the translation.

I have grown up going to church all my life and it was something that shaped me and my language portfolio. I went to a church that was predominately an English speaking mass. There was English oral and written in how we celebrated. However, a lot of the masses I went to have been in Latin and we would sing and Read in latin. Further, we also had Spanish masses that I would attend sometimes. I really like and enjoy listening to all the different versions of the mass.

Throughout my life I have had many peers with various language backgrounds and cultures. That can range from teachers, co workers, students, and acquaintances. My main mode of communication is English as being a monologuists speaker. However, I have been able to use various ways to communicate in a common way with people. For example google translate, DeepL and other language translating apps or websites.
