         <title>Missouri compromise (1820-1854)</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Date-1820-1854</p><p>Description-They drew a line across the nation and everything north of line was a free state and everything south of the line was a slave state. Missouri became a slave state and they were 50/50 with equal power. </p><p><br/></p><p>Cause- to prevent slave states from having more power </p><p><br/></p><p>Effect- created the state of main and made it free </p><p><br/></p><p>Perspective- it mostly affected the slaves in both the south and the north</p><p><br/></p><p>Connection- The Kansas-nebraska act outlawed the compromise 34 years later</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Date- May 30, 1854</p><p>Description- it allowed settlers in the area to use popular sovereignty to decide if slavery should be allowed within their borders </p><p><br/></p><p>Cause-Organize territories for settlement </p><p><br/></p><p>effect- it led to the "bleeding Kansas"</p><p><br/></p><p>Perspective- Pro-slavery people thought that it validated their expansion of slavery into new areas</p><p><br/></p><p>connection- this was the start of the reason of the Pottawatomie massacre that happened 2 years later</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Date-May 24th-25th, 1856</p><p>Description- John Brown and his followers killed 5 pro-slavery settlers in Kansas because of tension built up from the kansas-nebraska act and the struggle to choose if Kansas was gonna be a free or slave state</p><p><br/></p><p>Cause-They were retaliating from the sacking of Lawrence </p><p><br/></p><p><br/></p><p>Effect-The violence continued further into the region and continued a chaotic period for kansas</p><p><br/></p><p>Perspective-Pro-slavery settlers thought the it was unnecessary while anti-slavery settlers thought it was necessary for all the enslavement they went through </p><p><br/></p><p>connection-It was a result of the failure of the Missouri compromise </p>]]></description>

It declared slaves in confederate states were free </p><p><br/></p><p>Cause- Lincoln wanted to weaken confederacys army </p><p><br/></p><p>Effect- It allowed African Americans to enlist in the union army</p><p><br/></p><p>Perspective-enslaved people were happy they were granted freedom. confederate states labor force was weakened. </p><p><br/></p><p>connection- This was a set up for the 13th amendment </p>]]></description>

It was a battle between the union and confederates. it started because confederate general Robert Lee's army engaged with the union </p><p><br>Cause-Robert Lee invaded the North</p><p><br>Effect-It boosted northern morale and it was the beginning of the decline in confederates fate </p><p><br>Perspective-It solidified the unions commitment to the nation and it hurt the ego of the confederates because they hoped to win the war </p><p><br>connection-The union winning the war set the path to the 13th amendment because they wanted freedom for all </p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Date-December 6th, 1865</p><p>Description- The 13th amendment abolished slavery and involuntary servitude except as punishment. it was a big step forward for civil rights </p><p><br></p><p>Cause- it was a result of the civil war </p><p><br></p><p>Effect- it released about 4 million slaves and it changed the social and economic environment </p><p><br></p><p>Perspective-it gave freedom to slaves and gave them their right and opportunities they couldn't have while enslaved </p><p><br></p><p>connection- this is connected to the emancipation proclamation when Lincoln declared freedom to the slaves in confederate states </p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Date-March 3rd, 1865 </p><p>Description- congress wanted to aid freedom slaves and poor white in the south after the civil war was over </p><p><br></p><p>Cause-The civil war left many people in terrible conditions </p><p><br></p><p>Effect-It played a part in establishing schools and gave educational opportunities to African Americans </p><p><br></p><p>Perspective- It improved former slaves and poor whites way of life in the south.</p><p><br></p><p>connection- Its connected to the 13th amendment because they both were a part of the efforts to integrate formerly enslaved people into society </p>]]></description>
