Through Tyler’s unique style of chordal arrangements, I have been inspired to experiment with putting emphasis on the harmonic elements in my production. I have also been influenced by Tyler’s ability to create conceptual albums that revolve around the connection between his lyrics and production in order to convey storytelling.

Travis Scott

Since the inception of his career, Scott has maintained a signature sound with heavy use of synthesisers, industrial drum breaks, and other psychedelic effects. Additionally, Scott also relies on multiple layers of autotune with his vocals. These psychedelic elements have both culminated in influencing my production choices, and sound design.

Pharrell Williams

In his youth, Tyler would study Pharrell's discography, learning song structures, and questioning chord progressions. This gave Tyler a deeper understanding of artistry, therefore influencing the tone and instrument choices of Tyler. Without Pharrell, Tyler would not be the artist he is today, even going on to say, “I didn’t have a father… Pharrell is who I looked at" (Fofana, 2023).

Q-Tip

Q-Tips' style of lyricism where he reflects on the current status of his life (being truthful about yourself) has significantly influenced Tyler’s decision to reflect on his life choices he has made across the span of his career. Tyler further elaborates on this idea of being truthful about yourself saying, “Call Me If You Get Lost mirrors the way that I truly lived… Q-Tip made the blueprint for that to happen" (Espinoza, 2023).

Eminem

Through his staccato vocal delivery and often absurdist lyricism, Eminem has heavily influenced Tyler’s style of vocal delivery. Additionally, Eminem also influenced Tylers choice of production early in his career, with most of his beats being very minimal. For Tyler, hearing Eminem's music actually influenced him to begin rapping, “The thing with Eminem is he's the reason I started rapping, still one of my favorite rappers” (Green, 2018).

Kid Cudi

Throughout his career, Cudi has demonstrated a masterful ability in conveying emotion through the form of storytelling, this allows him to create multi-layered conceptual albums. Furthermore, Travis has been largely influenced by Cudi's conceptual work and storytelling ability, and spoke at length when he revealed, “The way he tells his stories... I related to that. I adopted my own form of storytelling" (Kozin, 2019).

Kanye West

Through his masterful ability in bringing artists together to create masterpieces, West has undoubtedly crafted career defining projects which has influenced many artists, including Travis Scott. West’s influence on the curation and orchestration of Scott’s own albums is without a doubt prevalent. Scott would later go on to say that, “there is no Travis Scott without Kanye West” (Rindner, 2023).

Björk

Bjorks' influence can definitely be seen through Travis' vocal arrangement style and unique arrangement. Travis went on to say that Bjork was, “One of my biggest inspirations” Krol, C. (2022).
