Salient Feature

The MATATAG Curriculum, introduced by the Philippine Department of Education (DepEd), is part of the K to 10 curriculum revision and was launched to address concerns about the previous K to 12 system. It aims to improve foundational skills, reduce learning overload, and ensure relevance to learners’ future paths.

A. The stages of the curriculum process are the development of shaping papers, validation of the draft, revision of the draft, public review, finalization of the draft.

B. The salient features are decongested curriculum, focus on foundational skills, balanced cognitive demands, clearer articulation of 21st century skills, reduced learning areas and intensified values education and strengthened peace.

C. Ways forward are pilot implementation, capacity building, learning resources and the SHS curriculum revision.

I've learned that:

• Content must be age-appropriate, culturally relevant, and connected across subjects.

• Integration of 21st-century skills (communication, collaboration, critical thinking, creativity) is essential.

• Content should support values education, discipline, and resilience — aligning with the MATATAG vision.

I learned different strategies for implementation for the curriculum specifically on focusing the foundational skills and it helps me identify learners who need immediate attention and supervision. It could help me adapt new things and develop more ways to apply critical thinking needed for my learners

The salient features of this curriculum are decongested curriculum and focused on foundational skills. This where we can deliver all the needed topics for each quarter and can promote meaningful learning experiences to our learners.

In this curriculum equipped all our learners with 21st century skills. It also prepared our learners a strong literacy and numeracy foundation.

I also learned that the curriculum continues to follow a spiral progression, where topics are revisited with increasing depth and complexity. This promotes better retention and a more connected understanding of each subject across grade levels .

I learned the importance of updating the curriculum to meet the changing needs of learners.

I learned that the goal of the curriculum is to prepare the learners to be literate, skilled, globally competitive and ready to face real-life challenges with confidence.
