The standards have been identified, we have discussed how/why these are important; and they reflect the agreed upon collaborative expectations. They will be displayed in the classroom. The expectations will be used as a reference so students have the knowledge of what is expected of them; they will be held accountable to these standards; and they should be thoughtful when making choices and taking action. The aim is to have the students begin with a clear understanding of what behaviors are intended for the classroom. I will use a systemic approach to teaching the standards. I am defining behaviors, consistently reinforcing expectations, monitoring student actions, and correcting students as needed. I will make it a common practice for me to acknowledge students for following the appropriate behaviors in class.

This will set the tone for creating a collaborative learning environment. I will include the primary situations that students will encounter in class: class-wide, arrival, cooperative learning groups, independent work, and whole groups. Each situation will connect with what the actions look like when students are “Being Respectful,”``Being Responsible,” and “Being Safe.” The students will participate in creating expectations. My reason behind their participation is to show that their voices matter and they can be part of creating the class norms.
