Through Chapter 11, which wasn't that long the children and Iqbal were free, clean, and well-fed. What they wanted overall was freedom, they no longer wanted to be in the grasp and control of Hussian Khan.  In the text when they get back to headquarters, they just seem startled, especially when they get the round of applause. Adjusting will be easy honestly, as long as they are cared for and are free.
