Cathinones are naturally found in khat plants. Centuries before flakka hit the drug market, khat leaves were chewed by people to get the euphoric effects of the cathinone inside. Compared to flakka, this was actually a way safer method of using cathinone. Flakka is considered a "designer drug', a group of drugs that were specifically designed to be considered legal.
