The Industrial Revolution influenced Realism because the art and writing was no longer Romanticized. Instead, it was about real life problems and experiences.</div><ul><li>How did the Civil War also impact or influence this literary time period?</li></ul><div>The Civil War impacted Realism because Americans wanted to put an end to Romanticism and write about the problems of slavery and the need for abolition. </div><ul><li>What was the Progressive Era and what was its impact on the literature during this time?</li></ul><div>The Progressive Era was a period of social activism and political reform. People wrote about the problems of industrialization and corruption.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Provide a description of Regionalism.</div><div>Regionalism is a strong feeling of pride or loyalty that people in a region have for a region. Characteristics and the people are specifically focused on. </div><ul><li>What does Regionalism have to do with Realism? </li></ul><div>Realism is the tendency to view  or describe something as it actually is. Regionalism focuses on specific characteristics in a geographical area and its people. To properly record this, one must record it the way that it is, not what he/she wants it to be.</div><ul><li>What was the main focus of Regionalist writers? </li></ul><div>The main focus of Regionalist writers are the people, dialect, customs, topography, and other features particular to a specific region.</div>]]></description>

The ultimate reality lies in the nature of matter. </div><ul><li>What does Naturalism have to do with Realism?</li></ul><div>Naturalism has to do with Realism because they are both views of life and humanity that present a " natural" or "real" outlook of the work. Supernatural elements and religion is absent in these beliefs.</div><ul><li>What was the main focus of Naturalist writers?</li></ul><div>The main focus of Naturalist writers are that the environment determines and governs human character.          <description><![CDATA[<ul><li>Identify a minimum of 3 similarities and 3 differences between Realism and Romanticism. </li></ul><div>Similarities:<br>- Both Realism and Romanticism may have the same settings or people in works of literature.<br>- Both Realism and Romanticism try to prove a point or teach a lesson.<br>- Both Realism and Romanticism believes in living life a certain way. <br>Differences:<br>- Realism emphasizes accuracy  and objectivity while Romanticism emphasizes imagination and emotion.<br>- Realism depicts common everyday heroes while Romanticism depicts larger-than-life heroes.<br>- Realism views the world scientifically while Romanticism views the world poetically.<br>- Realism focuses on real-life situations while Romanticism focuses on exotic, supernatural, and imaginary worlds.</div>]]></description>
