One piece of satire that I noticed in Act 1 is when Lane mentioned that "in married households the champagne is rarely of a first-rate brand.". Algernon responded with , "Good heavens! Is marriage so demoralising as that?". This reveals that both Lane and especially Algernon do not support the tradition of marriage. This was on page one and two.,

On page 3, Algernon said " The very essence of romance is uncertainty. If ever I get married, I'll certainly try to forget the fact." . I found this interesting because marriage is supposed to be about love, but Algernon doesn't believe that. He also mentions that he might get married which I find ironic because he seems so against it.

Algernon is clearly very against the idea of marriage. He tells Jack that "if you ever get married, which seems to be extremely problematic", on page 6. Algernon is very against the idea of Jack marrying Gwendolen.

Jack on the other hand, is very fond of the idea of marriage. He tells Gwendolyn, "Miss Fairfax, ever since I met you I have admired you more than any girl....I have ever met since...I met you." on page nine. His beliefs differ vastly from Algernon.

Algernon is a very honest man. He is very clear to Jack about his views on marriage on page three. You can also see how much he favors his family based on his reaction to Lady Bracknell's cucumber sandwiches missing.
