In the 17th 18th centuries, the american colonier practised slavery. The slaves were sold in exange for food and then solded again to the landowners.

They had to work without pay on plantation and rights.

Slavery was an important factor of the american civil war, because people wanted to abolish it and fight for their rights.

in 1886 the Supreme Court ruled that facilities for black and white people, such as bus seats, bathrooms and drinking fountains had to be "separate, but equal".

Gradually people began to understand that the situation was no more acceptable, so in 1940 they started to protests against discrimination.

Martin Luther King challenged white supremancy in the 1950s.

Finally in 1964 the Civil Rights Act made segregation illegal and the

Voting Rights Act of 1965 gave all black people the right to vote.

Mattia, Anna and Silvia.

In the 15th century, the French and British explored and colonised various placest in Canada.

As result, a lot of Canadianfamilies today have their roots (radici) in Britain and France . Canada became part of the Commonwealth in 1931 and the majority of Canadian speak English as their first language. French is the main language in the Quebec province, but almost half of the population of Quebec can speak both languages.

But the French and the British weren't the first people in Canada -The first inhabitants arrived around 20.000 years ago. Today, 1.6 million in Canada identify as indigenous- that's almost 5% of the population . There are also two sign languages. In the past, Plains Sign Talk was the "lingua franca" of different tribes across central Canada, central and western US and Northern Mexico. It was also used for story-telling and ceremonies.

Today, Canada is a multicultural country with vibrant and modern cities. But more than 20 million tourists visit Canada every year for its vast outdoors -80% of the country is uninhabitated and 42% is forest. visitors can experience the stunning peaks and glacier of the Canadian Rockies, see polar bears on an Arctic Safari, take a dog-sledding trip across the frozen Yukon territory or be amazed at Moraine Lake- the world's most beautiful glacial lake.

Capital: Ottawa

Population: 40 million

Area: more than 9 million square kilometers
