The impact of school

School has certainly made an impression on the person I am today. From the early ages of preschool and elementary school- I met my childhood friends which I am still close with a good few of them. My friends have played a big role in shaping me into the person I am today. School has taught me academically but also socially how to act, how I want to be perceived as well as what I value. Although I don't think school has prepared me whatsoever for the future- I think it helped me figure out the little things in my life.

The effect of media on my life

I was in the last generation that was raised without a phone, I didn't get a phone until 5th grade and everything before that was all imagined, drawn, played or created. There was no Snapchat, Instagram or social media to connect through it was human interactions. Being that I had somewhat of perspective of what life was like before the iPhone, I know that its a whole lot different now. I believe that it has effected me in the way that I care way more about what other people are doing, how they are acting, how I should be acting and comparing myself to what I think I should be which is unrealistic. Social media is setting false standards.- making people believe their lives should look like all these other influences and they are not living up to the beauty standards or they don't have the next greatest thing. I feel we as a society lost our sense of individuality through social media and that differences are shunned.

how my family has shaped me as an individual

My family are the people I was raised with, the people that taught me good from bad, how to walk, how to talk, what I should value and what I should disapprove of. Ever since I was a child they had an idea of who they wanted me to be and what my future would look like. A doctor, a lawyer, a business woman, a psychiatrist; anything that makes the big bucks was what I was told to aspire to do. I should be polite, responsible, timely, confident, and always respectful. I still am unsure of what I'd like to do when I grow up but I know that whatever I do- it won't be a boring office job and I won't be unhappy doing it. Because unlike my Dad I don't value the big bucks, I value satisfaction and contentment with my life. I know my parents love me and they love the person I'm becoming and I could never thank them enough for their support.

I'll know that I made it to where I want to be in life when I'm finally grateful for everything including myself. I have struggled with my mental health throughout the years and a goal of mine was always to be happy, now with more maturity I realize that happiness is not something that can simply be achieved as it is promised to come and go through your life. When I can finally look at my life and see nothing but satisfaction I'll know i made it in life. This will take mindfulness and hard work to be able to train my mind not to look for the bad in things anymore but i know its achivable.

I was an anxious kid and a very bad over-thinker growing up, One of the biggest struggles as a kid was worrying too much and upsetting myself about things that I couldn't control. I remember I was young and crying because I couldn't do my math homework, my dad told me to walk him through every possible scenario that could happen from me not being able to complete my homework that night and the worst one I could come up with was my teacher marking it as a zero and my grade not even being effected by 1 percent. My mom also taught me that if its out of my control worrying wont help anything, I use this technique often by assessing if its in my control or not- then walking myself through the scenarios of what could happen, and almost always I'm put to ease.

My dog Rosie

I had a childhood dog named Rosie who helped shape me into the person I am today. She taught me to be patient, loving, attentive and understanding. I learned so much from a creature who couldn't even speak to me. I now work with dogs at PetSuiets in St Charles, and i credit that to how amazing my dog was.
