Mechanical weathering is the process of breaking big rocks into little ones. This process usually happens near the surface of the planet. Temperature also affects the land. The cool nights and hot days always cause things to expand and contract. That movement can cause rocks to crack and break apart.

Biological weathering is when something is weathered by a living thing or creature. For example, like the picture below, the tree has worked its way and pushed apart the road, making a bump in the once flat road as the roots took the space it needed.

This tree has broken through the road. The pressure of the tree's roots being grown underground made it push up almost through the rock and cracking it a bit. It will eventually break free and have to be chopped down and the road be fixed.
