Athena Turned Odysseus into a beggar to see how people would react.<br><br><br>2. <strong>Hero's journey plot point:</strong> Is the ally or mentor because Penelope is his wife. <br> <br><br>3. <strong>Greek values: </strong>"A poor show bad business you know they come in many forms to keep a eye on the mortals" (Homer 1002).<br> <br><br>4.<strong> Characterization:</strong> </div><ol><li>A characteristic showed is pure loyalty shown here as, "No plain, no burden for the heart when bows come to a man, and defending his own cattle"(Homer 1002).</li></ol><div>  </div>]]></description>

         <title>The Return of Odysseus </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><br>1. <strong>Role of the gods</strong>: The gods role here would be Zeus and Athena both helping him get back to his homeland Ithaca like he has wanted to get back to his since he left his ordinary world. "Athena and Zeus arm has been around us"(Homer 998).</div><div><br><br><br>2. <strong>Hero's journey plot point:</strong> The plot point for this episode is the ordeal because its not really a challenge it is more of something just happening.</div><div><br> <br><br>3. <strong>Greek values: </strong>A greek value shown would be honesty, because Odysseus was honest too his son. "No no no, I am your father not a god"(Homer 996).</div><div><strong><br> </strong><br><br>4.<strong> Characterization:</strong> A characteristic shown would be understanding, since Telemachus listened to him and understood him. "Dear father it is you! Tell me of what vessel they put you ashore"(Homer 997).</div>]]></description>

         <title>The Cattle of the Sun God</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><br>1. <strong>Role of the gods:</strong> "Zeus let fly a bolt against the ship, a direct hit..."(Homer 984). To make sure that Odysseys and his got punished for eating the cattle. <br><br><br><br>2. <strong>Hero's journey plot point:</strong> "The cattle here are not for our provision..."(Homer 981). Odysseys's men fail the test of obedience by not listening to Odysseys's instructions of not eating the cattle. <br> <br><br>3. <strong>Greek values:</strong> 'Old shipmates, our stores are in the ship's hold, food and drink" (Homer 981) Odysseys men don't pass the test because they eat the cattle.<br> <br><br>4.<strong> Characterization: "</strong>So overweening, now they have killed my peaceful kine, my joy..." (Homer 983). Odysseys men couldn't keep back from eating the cattle so Zeus go on them and made it hard to sail away. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><br>1. <strong>Role of the gods</strong>: "I tied on my cuirass and took up two heavy spears" (Homer 979). It showed courage to his men that he will try to fight of the monster then best he could. <br><br><br>2. <strong>Hero's journey plot point:</strong> "Scylla made her strike whisking six of my men from the ship" (Homer 980). Odysseys tried to save his men by putting himself out.  <br> <br><br>3. <strong>Greek values: "</strong>Heads up, lads we must obey the orders as I give them" (Homer 979). Odysseys and his men all show courage when they had to face Scylla. <br> <br><br>4.<strong> Characterization:</strong> "That was all, and it brought them round to action" (Homer 979). The men wouldn't listen to Odysseys at the start but then at the end they listened. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><br>1. <strong>Role of the gods</strong>: "The goddess reveals his course to him and gives advice on how avoid the dangers he will face" (Homer 975). Odysseus fills the men with wax so they can't here the sirens but they still run into trouble. </div><div><br>2. <strong>Hero's journey plot point: "</strong>As Circe spoke, Dawn mounted her golden throne, and on the first rays Circe left me, taking </div><div>her way like a great goddess up the island" (Homer 975). When Odysseus and his men let he gave them wax so they couldn't here the Sirens. Odysseus men tied him up and wouldn't let him go.</div><div><br>3. <strong>Greek values: </strong>"My faithful company rested on their Oras now, peeling off the wax that I laid thick on their ears then set me free" (Homer 978). Odysseus men would not listen to him even when he said they would die if they didn't let him free. <br><strong> </strong><br><br>4.<strong> Characterization:</strong> <br>"Sirens </div><div>weaving a haunting song over the sea we are to shun, she said, and their green shore all sweet with clover" (Homer 975). They had amazing voices so the men wanted to listen to them and along with their singing they had green shores that appealed the men to go to. </div><div> </div>]]></description>

The god Circe told Odysseus to go to the land of the dead on get the blind profit Tiresias. <br><br><br>2. <strong>Hero's journey plot point:</strong> <strong>Mentor </strong>"Great captain, a fair wind and the honey lights of home are all you seek"(Homer 973). Tiresias tell Odysseus what to do to get home and warns him of danger. <strong>Crossing the Threshold</strong> "Turn back, and carry out pure hecatombs at home to all wide heaven's lords"<br> <br><br>3. <strong>Greek values: </strong>"Unhappy spirit, I promise you the barrow and the burial" (Homer 972). They uphold the value of death because Elpenor was left to rot when he died and his death was never honored by anyone. <br><br>4.<strong> Characterization:</strong>  "Odysseus, master of land ways and seaways" (Homer 973). The people Odysseus encounters in the land of the dead honor him.</div>]]></description>

The Cyclops prays to his father that Odysseus never makes it home.  <br><br>2. <strong>Greek values: "</strong>We Cyclops care not a whistle for your thundering Zeus" (Homer 102). The Cyclops doesn't honor the gods even though their father is Poseidon. <br><br>3.<strong> Characterization: </strong>"Nobody's" my meat, then, after I eat his friend." (Homer 105). A character flaw is that the Cyclopes don't uphold any Greek Values and is. </div>]]></description>

Odysseys ordinary world is Ithaca with his wife Penelope, and his son, Telemachus.<br><br>3. <strong>Greek values: <br></strong>Sheep after sheep they butchered by the surf"(Homer 954). Odysseus' men killed and ate someone's sheep and violated the value of hospitality.<br><br>4.<strong> Characterization: </strong>"Back, and quickly! Out to sea again!" (Homer 953). Odysseus is being heroic and trying to save his men from death. </div>]]></description>

"Many long nights without him has me longing for him"(Homer 1001).</div><div><strong><br> </strong><br><br>4.<strong> Characterization:</strong>  A characteristic shown was hope. Since she had been hoping for his return and now that she had just got word from the old beggar that her husband would be returned home soon. "He is alive and well and he is headed homeward now"(Homer 1005).</div>]]></description>

Odysseus is still disguised at a beggar but then stings the bow after everyone else can't. <br><br><br>2. <strong>Hero's journey plot point:</strong> "You yellow dogs, you thought I'd never make home from the land of Troy"(1011). Everyone in Troy didn't believe in Odyssey to make it home so everyone was trying to take his spot. <br> <br><br>3. <strong>Greek values:  </strong>"Not for the whole treasure of your fathers, all you enjoy, lands, flocks, or any gold put up by others, would I hold my hand"(Homer 1011). The value is honor to have all this fame. <br><br>4.<strong> Characterization: </strong>"Fight, I say, let's remember the joy of it" Odyssey was always wanting to be on top of everyone.</div>]]></description>

When is was odysseys time to shine he did what he had to do. <br> <br><br>3. <strong>Greek values: </strong>"I armed myself long ago against the frauds of men"(Homer 1016).This would be a value of death because once he was armed the suitors couldn't do anything.<br> <br><br>4.<strong> Characterization:</strong> "Kindly beaches in joy..." (Homer 1017). He was not gonna give up until he got back with his family. </div>]]></description>
