         <description><![CDATA[<div>The practice of culturally sustaining pedagogy is a needed step in order to aide in supporting, and extending the cultural practices and ways of knowing of students marginalized by systematic inequalities based on race, ethnicity, and language. 
If we as educators do not work towards fixing these inequalities, students experience linguistic and cultural loss. </div><div><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<blockquote>*Embrace cultural pluralism and cultural equality.<br>*Sustain the languages and cultures of long standing and newcomer communities of color in the United States.<br>*Support multilingualism and multiculturalism practices and perspectives for students and teachers.<br>*Support the value of multi ethnic and multi lingual present and future.</blockquote><div><strong>What if we do not?</strong><sub><br>If we do not implement these practices we will continue to support and create a monocultural and monolingual society based on white middle-class norms of language and culture being. Without these resistances students will continue to lose their heritage and community ways with language literacy and culture in order to achieve in the US school systems. We need to support all students from ALL cultural backgrounds, rather than diminishing the use of their heritage and community ways.</sub></div><div><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>What is Multilingualism?</strong><br>*Multilingualism is the use of more than one language.<strong><br>What is Translanguaging?<br></strong>*Translanguaging is the process whereby multilingual speakers use their languages as an integrated communication system.<br><strong>Why is Multilingualism and Translanguaging so important in education?<br></strong>*Both can be used to mediate understandings, to co-construct meaning, and to include others. <br>*Supports bilingual learners in language acquisition and learning.<br>*Does not limit students educational and life experiences if practiced correctly.<br><strong>What does this look like in the classroom?<br></strong>*Both students and teachers capitalize on translanguaging.<br>*Helps construct understandings, to make sense of the world and of the academic material, to mediate with others, helps students acquire other ways of langauging.<br>*Language flexibility is built in.<br>*Code switching, teachers and students switch back and forth using English and Spanish for example to gain a better understanding of the content being taught. <strong><br></strong><br><br><strong><br></strong><br></div>]]></description>
