Permettant de certifier les compétences d’un candidat en langues étrangères, la certification CLOE est disponible en anglais, allemand, espagnol, italien et français langue étrangère. Pour les entreprises, elle représente un gage de crédibilité supplémentaire, puisque qu’elle porte sur la communication écrite et orale au quotidien ainsi que dans le cadre professionnel.

Quatre compétences sont mesurées : l’expression orale et écrite ainsi que la compréhension orale et écrite, avec une attention particulière portée à la structure grammaticale des phrases. D’autres éléments entrent en ligne de compte, tels que la cohésion, le vocabulaire, la prononciation ainsi que l’aptitude à dialoguer.

Quelles sont les choses à savoir sur la certification CLOE ?

L’examen associé au passage de la certification CLOE demande notamment de :

• Comprendre un texte court et d’en dégager le sens global et des détails spécifiques.

• Identifier et utiliser des expressions de la vie courante ou professionnelle.

• Comprendre un énoncé, des instructions ou des questions d’un interlocuteur anglophone.

• Employer un vocabulaire courant ou professionnel adapté à la situation de communication.

• Construire des phrases cohérentes.

• Communiquer de façon naturelle à l’oral.

Les résultats de la certification CLOE font référence au Cadre européen commun de référence pour les langues (CECRL), qui est une norme internationale permettant de décrire la compétence linguistique. Cette norme se décline selon plusieurs niveaux allant de A1, premier niveau de compréhension à C2, considéré comme le plus haut niveau.

Comment bien préparer la certification CLOE ?

• Gardez toujours à l’esprit la structure de l’examen, en sachant que vous devrez comprendre et intervenir à l’écrit comme à l’oral. Vous n’avez pas de raison d’avoir de mauvaises surprises le jour J puisque vous avez d’ores et déjà en tête que les deux aspects seront testés.

• Pendant tout le temps de votre préparation, tâchez d’échanger le plus possible dans la langue de votre future certification. Achetez des journaux, magazines et lisez des articles en ligne afin d’enrichir petit à petit votre vocabulaire.

• Le jour de l’examen, prenez le temps de lire deux fois les questions qui vous sont posées afin de ne pas faire d’erreur de compréhension.

• Apprenez à maitriser votre temps. Lors de votre préparation à la certification CLOE, n’hésitez pas à prévoir des « examens blancs » dans un temps imparti.

2. Manufacture means to use raw materials to create finished goods such as metal and component parts from various sources being changed into, for example, a car. What a good lesson we had today. I know we worked though some tricky grammar but we ended on a lighter note with short role play scenarios. These are useful tools to help you 'think on your feet'. There was no preparation of advance warning and you handled two calls: stock on hand at a pharmacy and a dissatisfied restaurant goer.

Our first grammar exercise was to repeat Test 2 from 25/10 when you acheived 6/15. Today's score was 11/15 and it was clear you had a better understanding of the sentences.

We then moved to phrasal verbs: Phrasal verbs are very common in English, especially in more informal contexts. They are made up of a verb and a particle or, sometimes, two particles. The particle often changes the meaning of the verb. For exercises 1 and 2 you achieve full marks. The subject in a sentence is the thing that performs the action of a verb, whereas the object is the person, thing or place that is impacted by, or involved in, the action. In other words, the subject does and the object receives. A sentence needs a subject, but not all sentences require an object.

As to the difference between the use of modal verbs "can" and "may" - they are both auxiliary verbs (modal verbs) that are often used interchangeably, but they have subtle differences in meaning:

• Can

  Used to express ability, possibility, or permission. "Can" is typically used in informal or general situations, and is often direct and straightforward. For example, "I can lift that box" means you are physically able to do it.

• May

To complete the exercise, I turned the tables and you became the interviewer, interviewing me for a supply chain position.

Both role play scenarios were unrehearsed and you managed the tasks - admittedly with some difficulty - with little hestitation.

The success of the exercises was certainly in your understanding of when to use past, present and future tenses.

Well, today started off our lesson programme for 2025. I hope the lessons help you on your language learning journey.

As you had not had time to review the rules relating to the manner in which different pronouns are used, we worked through the exercises together. With a little help, you achieved full marks for all three exercises. The explanation on the link sent on 16 Dec summarises the differences: subject pronoun (before a verb), object pronoun (after a verb or preposition) etc. They will help you manage the differences. Reflexive simply means 'referring to the subject'. For example, if 'I' am the subject, then 'myself' is the reflexive pronoun. EXAMPLE. I cut myself with a knife.

We discussed some focus points for future lessons:

• asking and answering questions; and

• using verbs in the past simple (negative forms)

Thank you for persevering in the lesson today. I had promised hypothetical scenario based questions as a 'lighter' lesson and a change from grammar. I used two business based scenarios questions to open conversation and to see what vocabulary you could manage and how you would deal with the challenge. It was not an easy task but you were able to keep going although did sometimes need to be prompted as to the direction your responses needed to take.

1. You have a head office (from another country) manager visiting for a quarterly meeting and you have to tell him that one of your direct reports made a mistake resulting in 'out of stock items'. The problem occurred as a supplier of raw materials was unable to meet your order quantities. VOCABULARY : mitigate risk / quality control / Procurement selection and approval / components / SLA = service level agreement.

2. One of your direct reports has resigned to work in another country. You have to replace him and have short listed 5 potential incumbents. Your first choice is perfect for the position but will not take the position as you cannot meet his salary expectations. You have to tell your Line Manager why you are offering the position to the second person on the short list. VOCABULARY : salary band / job description and grade.

NOTES:

The verbs say and tell have similar meanings. They both mean "to communicate verbally with someone", but we often use them differently.

The simple way to think of say and tell is:

• You say something

• You tell someone something.

'Can' is a modal verb and because of this mis followed by a verb in the base form (verbs in the infinitive without to). Ex: 'You can eat the cake'; 'I can speak English'. We cannot say 'You can to eat the cake' or I can to speak English'. You can use 'can to' when TO is part of an infinitive (usually to express purpose) and CAN is not connected to that verb in the usual way when TO is not there. Here is an example: The doctors are doing what they CAN TO save your baby. In this case, the verb DO is implied. That means 'The doctors are doing what they CAN [do] [in order/so as] TO save your baby'. So CAN can be used next to TO only when they are not part of the same phrase. I hope this makes sense. My suggestion is not to use the phrase 'can to'. Using ' can' with 'too' is a very different kettle of fish!

'Important'

means 'having a great effect on people or things; of great value; an important issue/question/point/factor; We have an important decision to make'. Not used as 'important salary' to mean 'high salary' or 'above average salary'.

It was great to hear that you feel your 'brain block' relating to speaking English has largely disappeared and that you attribute your progress to frequent lessons and the efforts you have made listening to podcasts and watching films etc. All these build skills and confidence and I agree with you!

In today's lesson (our penultimate -a great word), we practiced describing different scenarios (based on given images) using adjectives: two simple work environments, a restaurant setting, hiking in the mountains, trips to Rome and New York and a safari experience (hot, dry and dusty).
