🦂 Downsizing our life to fit into this itty bitty van was the best decision we’ve ever made. With the limited space we wanted to take advantage of every inch, while also keeping everything minimalist. Definitely felt inspired by a lot of other #vanlifers on @youtube but we came up with a completely original layout. Barely spent anything on the conversation and couldn’t be happier with the outcome. #vantour coming soon! Sacrificing space to wake up in nature everyday has been no sacrifice at all.

On a calm Monday morning, @bizarre_design_ and I decided to take the highly trafficked hike to the Delicate Arch.
Not sure if it’s because it was 7ᴀᴍ on a Monday, but there actually were not as many people on the trail as I expected. After waiting on a short line for someone to generously take our photo, @bizarre_design_ and I made our way to the other side of arch (sᴇᴇ ɴᴇxᴛ ᴘᴏsᴛ)
We also camped for one night in Devils Garden with the cover off of our tent to fall asleep watching the stars, trying to catch a glimpse of the Perseid meteor shower

Also, during our hike I stepped off the trail up onto bare rock, just to take a photo of the view out of everyone’s way of the path, and a very nice man who I believe worked for @rei stopped everyone in their tracks and commented about my shoes asking me how I liked them, I felt like I was giving a small presentation to everyone crowding around waiting to continue on the path, all looking up at me while I’m standing on this rock describing how awesome these shoes have been! especially hiking with them on the #appalachiantrail while @bizarre_design_ hikes barefoot!

Rain sounds like a negative thing when camping, but after coming back from a strenuous long hike in the sun with no shade for miles, it’s nice to lay listening to the cold rain hit your tent and fight @bizarre_design_ for the blanket

After going on our first road trip across the country in my tiny car, we felt like there was just so much we missed. Turning this Ford transit essentially into a camper was such an adventure in itself, but I couldn’t love the way it turned out more! All the places it’s brought us so far have been amazing! As soon as we got to the Great Sand Dunes I didn’t want to leave, there was so much to hike! But as soon as the campsites on the dunes open up for summer they fill up instantly, along with the overnight parking permits. Lucky enough, I called at the right time when someone canceled!! and was able to score us a campsite for 2 nights overlooking the dunes. I’m so grateful we got such an awesome spot to spend the night and surf the dunes! And the night sky here was insane! never seen so many stars!

⛈. After leaving Colorado and getting stuck in a dust storm, We camped in Zion for 3 nights, watching the lightning and listening to the thunder from our tent. It’s really nice to go on 100° hike every day and feel the cold come in at night, waiting for the rain.

The past two nights camping in Zion have been so cool, literally. We hiked up here in about 100° and it was so nice coming back to our campsite, watching the sky fill with dark clouds, and view the lightning storm in the nice cool air of the light rain.

@bizarre_design_ hikes barefoot everywhere we go! If it were up to him, he wouldn’t own any shoes! But I just find it funny how many people comment on the fact that he is barefoot. As soon as we reached the end of this easy walk, I kicked off my @sanuk , and this woman who seemed very concerned asked me if the crust was hot. I was in such a different mindset that this question fazed me. Even if it was boiling lava, I was just so happy to be there that I didn’t think about the sun. Suprisingly enough, the rocks here were cold! No not ice cold, but cool! magically the sandy smooth crust dosent retain any heat? So not only did it feel good because it was 100° with no shade, but it was tranquil. we always love surpassing people on our hikes, hearing them say things like “woah look he’s barefoot”

Not alot of biodegradable packaging for on the go food these days, that’s why I stick with my melon rinds, apple cores, peach pits and banana peals. Humans are primates, great apes in fact but I don’t know all how great we are as a species. Chimpanzees share 98.8% of there DNA with humans, our closest living relative, but as I see it every living creature is in some way our relative even trees. Only 800 million years ago animal cells started appearing on earth comprised of mainly the same parts and following the same functions as plant cells. Requiring oxygen, solar energy, minerals, nutrients and water. This tree(Juniperus osteosperma)was surviving in only inches of soil, in an area of extreme heat and drought. I think our culture, our society has put itself above all living creatures, creating needs purely to support destructive economic practices. This tree doesn’t require an Apple Watch, it doesn’t stream its favorite shows, or have a microwave oven, pay health insurance or drink grande iced caramel macchiatos. It is just a tree but you rarely see geese riding jet skis or wearing designer clothing either. I think if we all want breathable air and drinkable water we all need to learn how to live with less🌏

DV is a passion for me because I have been a victim of DV. My mother was a victim of DV. Several of my girlfriends were victims of DV. 

Trauma bonding happens in several ways. It is an insidious method that creates a sense of withdrawal. Sometimes, over time, the abuser can convince a person that they cannot and will never find anyone that will put up with us like they do. They will create honeymoon stages where the victim will feel like life is great only for the love and affection showering to be withdrawn again.

DV victims can experience an intense Stockholm syndrome. When the tether is severed suddenly, it is a shock to the system and psyche. That is the most vulnerable time for a victim because they can desperately desire things to just go back to the way they were during the honeymoon stage.

The grief that can be experienced is similar to dealing with the death of a loved one. Most especially so when the ties are cut quickly and suddenly. If the victim is hiding, there is fear that they may be found and the punishment will be much worse than if they would never have left in the first place.

There can be fear for family and friends being hurt as the abuser looks to lash out at anyone that may have been collaborating or helping the victim.

If things get to that point, the victim often tends to believe that everything is their fault and the fear they feel is very valid and very real.

As a victim and friend of several victims--it does get better. Yes, it can get worse before it gets better. However, it is much better than becoming another Gabby. We can escape. We can start a new life. We do not have to be tethered and controlled by narcissistic people. We can walk away and it can be okay.

Stay strong. Live strong. Help is out there.

There is no way to determine whether the homicide was accidental or intentional by the ME, that is up to the FBI.
