EVIDENCE 1: PROFESSIONALISM ESSAY

I have chosen this assessment to support Graduating teachers Standard 7b which is to have knowledge and understanding of the ethical, professional and legal responsibilities of teachers. In this essay I have discussed on 3 aspects of professionalism which are specialized knowledge, qualities and attributes of a teacher and teacher as a reflective practitioner. These all explain the responsibilities of a professional teacher. For example specialized knowledge includes knowledge of policies and procedures that ensure the well being, learning and development of children, code of ethics to uphold the standard of professional service to children, parents and whanau and theories and literature to inform and refine teaching practice. A professional teacher is shaped by good qualities and attributes and these are vital to creating positive dispositions in ECE. Professional teachers build on strengths and overcome weaknesses when they reflect on their practice. It is an opportunity for teachers to look back and see what they could do better next time round. I chose this assessment as evidence as it shows the knowledge and understanding I have of ethical, professional and legal responsibilities of teachers.

EVIDENCE 3: MY COLLECTION OF PHILOSOPHIES THROUGHOUT THE YEARS

I have chosen my collection of philosophy statements to support Graduating Teachers Standard 7d which is: are able to articulate and justify an emerging personal, professional philosophy of teaching and learning. I have put my philosophy statements which I have established over the years into a collection. Each statement covers what I was learning at the time for example reflective practice, inclusion and learning in the outdoors. I have then incorporated them all into my current teaching philosophy along with other things I learnt through literature, theories, the course and practicums. I chose this as a piece of evidence as it shows how my philosophy and teaching practice has developed and will continue to grow. It also shows the knowledge I have obtained over the years to establish my current teaching philosophy.

I have chosen this assessment to support Graduating Teachers standard 7b also. In this assessment I had worked alongside my Associate Teacher to review a chosen policy. I had chosen to review the Positive Guidance policy using the centre’s review process. In entry 2 I drew upon knowledge of laws and regulations that impacts this policy, I explained the legal expectations and obligations of teachers to uphold this policy and described the ethical dilemmas that could occur when implementing this policy. I chose this assessment as evidence because I have demonstrated my knowledge and understanding of the ethical, professional and legal responsibilities of teachers.

"The teachers have articulated how much they have enjoyed you being here-this is also evident in the interactions they have with you. The shared leadership style talked about in entry 3 is really evident. Other team members approach you to share things with you and you share with them as appropriate" (Kylie Smith, 2017, Professional Inquiry 6: Year 3 semester 2)
