I'm currently enrolled in Introduction to Sociology because it was one of my prerequisite requirements to get into dental hygiene school, but despite the reason that I'm required to take this class, I'm enrolled in this class because I'm excited to learn about the history of society and social groups. As down-to-earth sociology says, "Each area of investigation examines a particular slice of nature."

(JCB)Food isn’t just something to survive in life, but it’s also a form of culture. This chapter makes a connection to your perspective on cravings and those of other countries, depending on the level of desperation and cultural context. For example, cock roaches are ate in mexico especially during the Day Of The Dead. I didn’t know foods could be tied to our identity. Thinking about food opens up chances to think sociologically.

(H) This is about the culture in which the Nacirema have advanced ideas.

This is characterized by a developed market economy that has evolved in a rich natural habitat. There was an alienation of workers from their labor and one another, fueling social conflict.

Research Methods (6/16,17) I believe that a coffee order does define who you are because this shows your preferences. At a coffee shop, this is the only place where you describe something so specific to a person that you like. This defines a sense of self because this shows what you enjoy and prefer to start off a morning or to give you a boost and satisfy your cravings.

(self 6/18) I believe that consumption in a manner defines who I am. I tend to describe myself in the way that I present myself with what I dress in, which is a manner of consumption. I enjoy wearing accessories and clothing that make me feel good, and it defines the way I feel. The more you have also given u a sense of self-worth and u feel as if you've worked hard enough.

(Groups 6/23) The messages that salespeople give convey a sense of self-worth when buying the product. A salesman will try to connect with you, making you feel as if this product will make you feel as if your life better with it. This creates a virtual community by presenting this product to the public as a necessity and slowly the public advertises it to each other, making more of the community buy the product.

(Work6/24,25) Living in the middle class, I fear that you live an in-between life of poverty and living comfortably. because you have enough every month to pay your bills, but there are often months when you can struggle. Compared to being poor, it's a constant battle navigating. Reading chapter two in the textbook shifts your perspective because you never realize how much people who are considered have to move around their lives to make a living, for example, in the text, they had to get two jobs because one wasn't cutting it, or they had to move closer to there job site due to not being able to afford gas. Now, as a person who is considered middle class, it'sn't that excessive if I'm short making money, I cut my expenses, what I don't use for bills, and waste it on things that are only necessary until I shortly.
