Im curretly reading the Autobiography of Malcolm X. Im only at Page 275. I like reading this book in school and in the morning but getting myself to read at home is not as easy.
Currently Malcolm is transitioning from talking about his early life in the Nation of Islam to a more later date where hes far older and more nationally recognized. Althouhg hes telling a story he often brings up the same points and ideals, in a way this book has been a long persusive essay as to why he feels how he feels about America and the white man.
The picture I chose is a representation of what I feel is a commonly overlooked part about him when it comes to peope my age and that is his black nationalist ideolgy. Black-nationalism is the belief that the black man in America will never truly achieve freedom and so they should disban and create their own nation. It can also be interpreted as the political independence of Black-Americans. Malcolms big take is seperation over segregation as he feels that in segregation and America te black people will always be treated worse, which to an extent hes not incorrect. Seperation means that he feels that instead of putting up with segregation and inequalities him and the rest of the black population should seperate and create their own country.
I currently am extremely enjoying this book. The writing style is enjoyable and learning so much about histroy I most likely would not have been taught otherwise makes this book very engaging. Also, for a civil-rights actvist who taught himself to read and write in prison this books vocabulary, grammar usage, organization, and story telling is remarkable.

I would recommend this book to someone who enjoys fantasy.

I misplaced my original reading book The Girl In The Locked Room by Mary Downing Hahn so I just read The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton. I ended up finishing that book in less that two days. So for fun I re-read a book I read in 6th grade, One For Sorrow by Mary Downing Hahn. This book is about a girl named Elsie. Elsie was a German girl living in America and the book takes place during the time of WWI so because she was German the kids at school would bully her and call her names. One day a new girl arrives to the school so she is considered an outcast as well and Elsie claims this girl as her new friend. This book also takes place during the influenza epidemic of 1918. Later in the book there was an accident...an accident that causes a new girl at school to lose someone. I'm planning on finding a new IRB to read. I might read The Boy in The Black Suit.

New characters have been introduced, the previous characters are having major character development, and we get a more in depth look at the Thunderhead and the world that the characters live in. My favorite thing about this book so far is that we get a better understanding of the Tonists and their practices. (picture is an artist rendition of the characters)

The book really has some great world building, and considering the world it has, it really needs that. It also gives the reader a sense of longing, wondering what will happen next to the characters and wanting to read the next book much, much sooner.

I finished this book just a little bit ago and I am trying to find a new book to read. This book is about a group of kids and their experiences and I found the book quite relatable, but different from the other books I've read since it did have a more lighthearted tone and different format. While this one wasn't my favourite, I still enjoyed the book and thought that the dialogue and events were very well written, but the format of the pages was hard to read.

The events that occur in the movie are stretched out and are less accurate. In the book, there are more details and a few differing characteristics. So far, I am enjoying the book and like how I get to see the more accurate story for the first time.

When I read this book at first it was really confusing because of the wording and I couldn't really understand the story line of the book, but after taking a little break and restarting it I better understood what the book was talking about. This book has some really great analogies about anxiety and ocd that help explain how it affects the way people think. This book is really well written, but it definitely takes some deep thinking to understand.

I checked this book out from the library because of its interesting cover design and the synopsis on the back. Without spoiling anything, I chose the image of a burning house above because I feel that it was the start of all that is soon to come from Dom, Patrick, and the rest of their family. The book picks up way more during the middle of the second chapter, in my opinion, and can seem a bit slow during the first chapter. However, now that it has started to get more exciting I'm interested to see where the story goes and how the characters develop.

John Green puts a lot of detail into each sentence which makes it easy to pay attention and not stray off. I am on chapter 17 page 239. So far this is my second favorite book I have ever read and I think it will stay that way. The best part about this book is how emotional it is. I find myself tearing up while reading it.

I have started reading The Fault in Our Stars by John Green. I'm currently on page 16 and the book has focused mainly on building the character Hazel and introducing her daily routine. I'm enjoying the book so far because of the fact that it's revealing the character's personalities and feelings in a natural way as opposed to the author just writing to pages TELLING me everything about the character. We are learning more about Hazel and Augustus as the characters are learning more about each other. It's like we are also a character in the book watching the story unfold.

Turtles all the way down is an amazing book by John Green. I am 36 pages in and I already love it. "Turtles All The Way Down" is a book about a 16 year old girl named Aza who has OCD. As a CEO billionare (Rusell Pickett) is on the run fro the police, she remembers that she used to be friends with his son (Davis Pickett). This book (just like every John Green book) has very detailed language that brings the story to life. It has you invested every second you are reading it. I am nearing the end (pg 225) but I still love the book. I can't wait to see what happens at the end.

12/6/21

I just finished reading The 57 Bus by Dashka Slater. I went into reading this book not knowing what it was about and once I started reading I was told that all characters in the book are real people. I didn't know why the author felt the need to address that, I thought it ould just make the story more interesting. Honestly, I thought this book was going to be about some kids on a bus that got lost and something dramatic happened. I think it would have been way easier to read if it actually was about that. I highly recommend reading this book if you want to read about topics related to the book (I suggest reading what the book is about before you start reading so you know what you're getting into though) this book made me feel many emotions and the author doesn't force and opinions on you by showing you one side. The author shows you the side of the victim and the side of who hurt the victim before you even know what they did. 10/10 would recommend. Definitely one of my new favorite books.

This story goes more in-depth about the older characters of the original series, makes things in the series more nuanced, and explains a bit more about what happens. It gives me an insight into what life was like back then in the stories and how the main characters of that series are related to the ones in this one. I can't go fully into this story without spoiling some of it, but it is just really good and makes for a great sequel prequel story. I would recommend this entire series to someone, 10/10.

I don't want to spoil anything so I won't talk about major or shocking events. I will say that I like how this third book involves the three major groups in the world, scythes, nimbus agents, and tonists. It is also interesting to see how they interact with one another.

I recently just finished reading a new book named "Perfect Little Flaws" by Jennifer Ann Shore. I chose this image because the book started off with the main character, Maren, hating the new kid, Vince. The reason is that her brother used to play soccer, but Vince was going to take all his achievements away. In the end, the main characters end up differently than how they started, but through some challenges. This book is great, and I would recommend it to anyone who loves the classic storyline.

Since they are going to die, they obviously are terrified and upset; they wish they had more time to get to know each other. They only thing I dislike how the author gives the most spiciest part towards the end since throughout this book, I anticipated so much, I mean that usually happens but i'm glad it still did .

I finished the book Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia over the weekend. I would say this book is very suspenseful and does very well with foreshadowing. There is tons of symbolism which gives you a lot of things to think about. I was a bit reluctant to read it at first because the cover didn't spark my interest but, I don't regret choosing it. The mystery and horror of the book are executed in a very interesting way and the narrator seems to be unreliable. My goal is to read more books by this author.

I am thoroughly enjoying it so far. There seems to be a deeper meaning behind the text, which I've noticed has shown in the first two books, but is very noticeable and much more frequent in this one. Overall, the book is about a wannabe movie producer who is chosen for a quest into another sort of dimension, and he struggles to handle his problems in both worlds.

I think that the main characters were interesting. One of the characters had very realistic dialogue with his coworkers in the scenes they put throughout about his mechanic business, it adds more realism and shows the characters' lives outside of just the romance which the book is about, getting us more interested in them. That is a very good writing strategy that the author utilizes. I think this book is interesting and I would recommend it based on what I've seen.

I recently finished the book Turtles All The Way Down. That book was written by John Green and he did not disappoint. Just like The Fault In Our Stars he connected me to the characters and made me feel emotion. Overall it was a great book. The book I am reading now is Kingdom Keepers: Disney After Dark. This book is about four kids who were hired to be virtual assistants at Disney's Magic Kingdom but once there image was turned into a hologram some thing wierd happended to them. Whenever they sleep they are turned into those holograms and are trapped inside of the park. Whats even weirder is that the park comes alive. That includes the villians. Those villians are trying to take over not just the park but the whole world and those four kids have to stop them. I think this book will be pacted with action since it includes evil villians. Most likely some fighting. I used a picture of a button becasue there is a button in Magic Kingdom that can transport the people back to their own bodies.

I am currently reading The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky. The format of the book was definitely not what I expected. Typically books are formated in chapters with the chapter being a couple of pages. However, this book is formated into parts with each part being a group o diary entries. Because of this, sometimes there are jumps between plotlines because they're days or weeks apart. The main character, Charlie, isn't obnoxious or behaving in an inhuman manner which makes the book much more tolerable. I chose this picture above because Charlie is often in solitude, observing from the outside. This especially manifests in his diary entries.

I am reading The Stranger by Albert Camus. The book was originally written in french but was translated by Matthew Ward. I'm currently on page 90 of 123 and so far I'm a big fan of both the characters and the writing style. The characters, while not personally relatable, feel like real people you would come across in you daily life. Each character has flaws and undesirable traits which, in my opinion, makes them easier to become attached to because you can sometimes see glimmers of yourself within them. Something I've thoroughly enjoyed about the book is that even the main character, Monsieur Meaursault, is heavily flawed and detached from the other characters and situations he's put in. To some this may be off putting to have a character with such lack of emotion or general regard but, to me, it makes for great writing and great character development.

I just finished reading Spy School The Graphic Novel. It just recently came out on February 15th and I pre ordered it. I think it's interesting that Stuart Gibbs decided to make a graphic novel because he usually only writes chapter books. Overall I really like this book, it's based off of the original Spy School book. The drawings are really well done and I like that you get to see all the characters how Stuart Gibbs sees them. I think the graphic novel series will turn into it's own series of translating all the books in the spy school series into graphic novels.

The book I am reading is a biography about the life of Paul Robeson called the mighty voice of Paul Robeson "sing and shout" by Susan Goldman Rubin. I originally only got this book for a black history project. Though I enjoyed the book so much that I decided to make it my new independent reading book. The book so far is talking a lot about how he was a very talented athlete, singer, and student. Though because he was black, he wasn't able to use his talents. There were so many rules against black people that it was almost impossible for him to chase his dreams. I think as I continue reading, things will start to get better for him. People will start to see how good of a person he is.

I am currently reading A Tale of Sorcery by Chris Colfer. This story is a sequel to the book that I was previously reading, A Tale of Witchcraft. I have read all of the books in this series and I can't wait to see if there will be any more coming out because of how much these books excite me. In this story, the main characters must fight together with their enemies so that they can help a friend. But, along the way, things have been discovered all leading up to a secret plot that has been going on throughout the entire book series. I'm getting close to the end so all of that will soon be revealed. I think that the reveal will either make sure that the characters have a happy ending, or give them something so terrible that they will have to fix it all if there is another book. And yes, there is a dragon.

I just finished the Kissing Game by Marie Harte. I think that the book was alright, it definitely had its drawbacks but the story was interesting and the main character, Rena, had a good dynamic with the love interest, Axel. However, some of the dialogue did seem unrealistic. There were still cute moments, and while I still enjoyed it quite a lot, it definitely wasn't my favourite book I've read this school year. I chose the image since cars play an interesting role in the story. The main love interest fixes cars and paints them for his work and it is a topic of discussion often for the main characters.

I'm currently reading The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas. It is about a sailor named Dantes living in Marseilles during the French Revolution. Just as his life is looking up, he get caught up into something bigger than himself... The book is very enjoyable, written in 1844, and it's fun to read older books because they are classics and provide a lot of detail and advanced words. I like how Dumas mobilizes several story-lines at one time and still keeps it historically accurate.

I'm currently reading All The Bright Places by Jenniffer Niven. I chose this bitmoji because it represents how both the characters feel in the story right now. They both have completely different personalities at school, but what they have in common is that they're both really sad. They don't show it though, and instead they pretend they're okay, especially the character named Violet. Violet has a lot of fake friends and the other character named Theodore is always getting in a lot of trouble, so I think Violet is going to leave those friends and become friends with Theodore and help him become a better person. Right now I'm not motivated to read a lot but I'm trying to take my book home more often so I have more time to read at home. I'm hoping that over the weekend I can get a lot of reading done.

I am currently reading Every Last Word by Tamara Ireland Stone. The book is about the main character Samantha and how she doesn't want her friends to know about her disorder. She has a friendgroup of five people but there used to be eight people in the group and would call themselves "the eights." They have a really toxic friendship and it has a huge impact on her because most of her anxiety attacks are caused because of the things they say or do to her. Samantha doesn't want her friends to find out about her disorder because she is afraid of losing her friends and the way they'll treat her after they find out she has ocd. I think Samantha's life might change for the better if she leaves the friendgroup and makes new friends who will support her instead of judge her because her being a part of that friendgroup just adds on to her anxiety and compulsive thoughts.

The image I inserted here represents the story so far. Injustice. Emmett Till was abducted from his home by Roy Bryant and his brother-in-law J.W. Emmett Till's body was found in the Tallahatchie River, Mississippi. The brutality is sorrow and shocking. The reason why his case is injustice because in court his killers did not receive any punishment, and obviously the judge was biased. This happened in August 28, 1955, during segregation. Overall I do recommend this book, but to notify you, they book add graphic images which is pretty disturbing. I think I might finish this book next week, depending on my schedule.

I finished that graphic novel called Bloom by Kevin Panetta the same day I borrowed it. It was a cute story and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a short story about love and friends (the image doesn't relate to this story by the way!). The most recent book I finished was The Memory of Light by Francisco X. Stork. It was so interesting to read and I was introduced to so many characters and there was so much dialogue I had a hard time figuring out who was talking at times and I would have to go back to the beginning of the conversation to understand it. The book is all about mental disorders and how mental health matters and how it's so important to be aware and talk about it. I chose the image because it's what gets the story going. Once you open the book you get thrown into this world that's painful to read about and it's just really sad. The image shows a bottle of sleeping pills. I think we all know the dark side of how people use sleeping pills when they get tired of everything or they can't handle it anymore. It's a dark book but it gets better I promise :)

It's a story about a girl named Scottie Zajac who uses her arch nemesis, Irene Abraham, to get back at her toxic ex girlfriend. Starting out with a fake relationship that just might dive into soemthing more. This image represents what the setting of the story is right now which is a high school party. This is also a part of the main character's personality trait as she expresses how much she hates parties throughout the story. I'm starting to break away from the books that I normally read which are fiction and fantasy books, and starting to introduce myself to the romance genre.

"I am reading the book Kingdom Keepers: Disney After Dark" by Ridley Pearson. This book is about five children whos presence was turned into a holograme for Magic Kingdom. Wen they sleep their concoiusness is transferred to the holograms in the park. There is an evil group called the Overtakers and tese kids have to try and stop them. Where I am right now, four of the kids are trying to find a setret passageway in the side of the castle to try and find a friend who is missing. This is why I chose a picture o the castle. This book so far is amazing. It is filled with a lot of action and the charactors are really funny. So far I have read 175 out of the 321 pages and I can tell it is soon reaching its climax. There are a lot of mysteries in this book, questios that no one as the answers to (atleast not yet) and this makes the book much more interesting. I can tell there will be a betrayal in the book based on how one character acts. Nevertheless, I am excited to see how this book will pan out.

A little while ago, I finished the book "City of Bones," by Cassandra Clare. I had high hopes for this book, and although I did enjoy it, it was really confusing. It often included themes like fantasy and magic, which I usually would've been okay with, though I don't know if I enjoyed it as much as I expected I would. Sometimes, the author has to give the readers a bit of sympathy, and explain things when it's needed (especially in a fantasy story where things can sometimes be ridiculous and unusual.) Personally, I don't believe Clare did that enough. Anyways, I noticed that the book included many themes regarding abandonment and not feeling worthy enough, which is why I chose this photo.

I am currently reading The Houseguest & other stories by Amparo Davila. I just started reading the book and I'm only 18 pages in, but I've already noticed a few common themes within the 2 stories I've read so far. The first two stories, Moses & Gasper and The Houseguest, both feature some sort of supernatural element. In Moses and Gasper were are never told what the creatures are just that they aren't "normal". In The Houseguest the person staying with them displays odd supernatural tendencies that are never truly explained. Through comparing the two stories I also developed the conclusion that the two stories share a similar theme of fear and hatred of the unknown, being controlled, and being made prisoner in your own home. The ability to deeply analyze each story individually and then compare them makes me really enjoy the book. It's well written and you can really feel the character's anxiety building throughout the story.

I just started to read The Fire Next Time by James Baldwin. It is a letter to his nephew about how the world is and will be for him because of his skin color and tries to explain things that well happen and things he will see. I find interest in this book because I have listened to one of James Baldwins debates/ speeches and I really find him knowledgeable and a little less aggressive when it comes to talking about what needs to be changed to help racism end. For example he instead of using violence and just trying to get it fixed through compromise he tries to change the oppositions views by using his own experience and I really can't wait to see that in the book.

I am currently reading We Can't Keep Meeting Like This by Rachel Lynn Solomon. This book is about a girl named Quinn who works at a wedding planning company with her parents, but knows it's not her passion and has to try to break free from her controlling parents and her place in the company they have already curated for her. While doing this, she continues having encounters with a guy that friendzoned her, who she had a heated argument with before he went off to college and they stopped speaking. Since their parents both work in the wedding business, now that he is home he helps out more and they end up doing more jobs together. I chose this image because of how prominent weddings are in the story, how everything seems to revolve around marriages and people getting together, and how Quinn feels trapped working with them. I would recommend the book so far, it is very interesting and the characters handle their situations very realistically. I think it is very cute.

I chose this image because in the book one of the things I noticed helps Samantha relax is poetry. So far in the book she was able to make one new friend who actually understands her a lot because she also dealt with anxiety before. Caroline has friends who write poems and make songs so she decided to take Sam to see a performance and as a result Sam found peace in these poems. Now Sam is starting to write poetry to distract herself and also as a hobby to try to join this club.

I am continuing to read The Mighty Voice of Paul Robeson "sing and shout" by Susan Goldman Rubin. This part of the book talks about how Paul just graduated college. It was a struggle because there were not many black people at the school and some people were racist towards him. He also didn't have a lot of money so he took many jobs just to pay for the college. Once he finished, he didn't know what he should do for the rest of his life. He was thinking about becoming a singer/performer, going back to play football, or becoming a lawyer. He was very good at all of these careers. I'm sure he could have been successful doing any of these things. I am interested to read about what path he decides to take and how he will make an impact to the world.

I'm currently still reading The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas. I'm only about 300 pages in, and the story is over 1,000 pages long. It's interesting how Dumas finishes one part of the plot, and then seems to start an entirely new plot, and you can never tell where the story is going. For example, in the beginning of the book, (SPOILERS) he is about to become the new captain of the ship, and is about to be betrothed. Things are looking up for him, and I assumed that the plot was going to continue like this. But then, Dantes gets arrested, and that storyline is erased, and a new one is started. Then Dumas develops his life in prison, and introduces a new character, with which he plots his escape. So I'm thinking that they are gonna escape and the plot will continue as previous, but then this other character dies, and Dantes only escapes 20 years after his imprisonment. And now, Dumas is developing an entirely new plot to the story. Can't wait to see where this goes...

All three of them are good books, Everything Everything by Nicola Yoon, NEVER ALWAYS SOMETIMES by Adi Alsaid, and The Upside of Unrequited by Becky Albertalli. Right now I'm reading Tell Me Three Things by Julie Buxbaum. It's a book told from the perspective of a teenage girl in High School. She talks about her dad, her stepmom and stepbrother, her new prep school, a crush, and the person who talks to her over email and doesn't want to talk to her face to face: SN (somebody nobody). I'm not done with this book but it's really interesting so far. The girl thinks she knows who SN is but SN is still acting like they've never bumped into each other in person. This book has stereotypical mean girl bullies, house parties hosted by popular kids, and just general high school drama. I'm not done yet so I can't exactly give my full review but so far, I'm enjoying the story.

In this part of the story, the main character Sophia and her accomplice Constance, have just met with a witch to help them with taking down the corrupt King Manford. That is the reason I chose this image above. It represents witchcraft, which is what Constance and Sophia will need to use to take down the king. Specifically, necromancy. I think that their use of necromancy might backfire on them because the witch in the story seems really shady. Sort of like she'll doublecross you the first chance someone comes around with a much better offer. My reading and writing life this year has been an extensive one.

Currently, I am rereading "Divergent" by Veronica Roth, published in 2011. I chose this picture to describe the main character, and her fast development. She started off very introverted, though with her training she got stronger and more confident. I read pages 167-178, where Tris wins the last fight contributed to the rankings because of her pent-up anger. I think that this section of the book was always really satisfying to read. In a way, she gets revenge on the people that wronged her, though she did it in a way that allows no punishment. Therefore, she is able to later forget her anger and move on as a stronger character. One book I read during this marking period was "The Princess Bride," which was extremely memorable, along with some other books. I often read independently when it's nice outside so I can read outside. I would rate "The Princess Bride" a 4. One of the reasons was because it was remastered, so another author went through the original story and deleted the really unnecessary portions.

I just finished "We Can't Keep Meeting Like This" by Rachel Lynn Solomon. It was a very good book with a well written ending, but I won't go into detail about the ending so as to not spoil it, because you should definitely read it. This book is about two childhood friends that have to see each other again after a big fight. One doesn't want to be his friend again, believing that romance is just a performance, the other wants to become friends or even partners like the old times. As them both having to go to college in the fall looms over their heads, the main character, Quinn, must smooth things over with the love interest, admit to her parents she doesn't want to be a part of their wedding-planning business, and figure out what she wants to do. Along the way, her friend Julia gets a girlfriend that makes Quinn question whether romance is truly just a performance and Quinn meets a professional harpist that teaches her how to make harps and how to find joy in what she thought she couldn't. This book was very good, and I couldn't peel myself away from it at times. I would recommend it to anyone. This marking period I have only read 2 or 3 books (I can't remember if my 3rd book was in the second or 3rd marking period).

Angela Davis: An Autobiography
First publised 1974
I finished the Autobiography of Malcolm X, and am now reading Angela Davis an Autobiography. From a scale of 1-4 I enjoyed Malcolm X's Autobiography at a 4. I would give it such a high rating as it gave me insight on issues I thought I knew a lot about when in reality I didnt. Not only that, but seeing how much his pigrilimage to Mecca not only changed his ideals but his personality was very intriguing to read about.
Currently I enjoy Angela Davis's Autobiogaphy at a 3. This score is mainly based off how I have not read to much of book and felt that starting the autobiography in the middle of her life can make it confusing. The picture I chose represents how currently in the book she is speaking on her time as a fugitive escaping the FBI.
I try to read independently at home but sometimes I cant find time with soccer and other school work.

This image reflects my book because Alan has a tree outside of his bedroom window that he admires almost everyday because of the tree's natural beauty. Also, Alan is an artist and sketches in his sketchbook almost 24/7. So, I thought that presenting a picture that mixed his two loves together would tell you more about the story and he main character.
Name of Book: Alan Cole is NOT a Coward
Author: Eric Bell
Pages Read: 12
Date of Publication: 2017
Summary of what I just read: what recently happened in my book is that Nathan, Alan's mean older brother, comes into Alan's room and has a nice little... chat. He explains that Alan can get to the piece of paper without breaking the vending machine. Also, Madison, one of Alan's close lunch friends, explains that he has an idea on how to make Alan the most well-known kid in school.
I think Alan is going to win the CvC games because it would be a surprising twist in the book, but also what all of the readers are expecting to happen because after all, he is the main character of the story.
I have only read a total of two books this marking period. The one I am currently reading now and I finished "Everything, Everything". I normally read during independent reading time and in other classes if I finish my work early. I very much enjoyed reading the book "Everything, Everything" and it is now my favorite book I have read. I don't really enjoy the book I am currently reading, so I might exchange it for something else.

I am reading That was Then, This is Now by S. E. Hintion. It was published in 1971 and today I read 12 pages. I think that one of the characters might get arrested soon since he has already had a very close run-in with the police, and he enjoys the theft of anything from a pack of cigarettes to a car.
Recently, I've finished a few books including 1984 by George Orwell and Snow Crash by Neal Stevenson. I usually read in the evenings before I go to bed. On a scale of 1-4 I give reading a 3.5.

I finally finished reading Every Last Word by Tamara Ireland. I have to say I am dissapointed because it took me a really long time to finish this book. At first I thought the book was interesting but the plottwist at the end wasn't as good as I would have liked it to be. It was predictable and I found the book boring after all. I think it's time for me to read a book of a different genre so maybe i'll get more into reading. This marking period I haven't read many books. I think I only read one and then dropped another one because it was too boring and cringe. I'll rate the books I read this marking period a 1.5 out of 4 because I didn't like reading them I just forced myself to read them because I was already half way through the books.

I am reading The Fire Next Time by James Baldwin published in 1962 I have read 12 pages and this picture represents this book because the book has a lot of memorable moments that he recalls back on and he writes in the view of his thoughts so that the reader can understand him better. and the book is mostly his opinions and views on certain aspects of life. Right now in the book, he is talking about how religion and how people are missing the point and how they are relating it to power and virtue when it started from "Some rocky piece of ground that is known as the Middle East." Lately, I am trying to learn more when reading by reading some of the top writers and I am starting that list with James Baldwin because he has always interested me from when I first heard one of his debates and saw a movie that was inspired by him. I am enjoying these books at about a 4 because I am gaining incite on topics that I probably wouldn't think were that important until I learned about them and I am gaining vocabulary because he is so educated in his craft of writing.

I chose this image of a toad because in the short story I read a woman is being tormented by her husband's mistress and she claims that the woman shows herself in a toad-like state but still in human form. The author describes the horrific image much better than I can which creates a sort of uneasiness whenever someone describes the "toad woman" The woman reaches out to her old high school friend, Sergio, for help but he just believes she is having some sort of psychotic break until he too comes in contact with the woman and can not stand her ominous presence.
Book Title: The Houseguest
Author: Amparo Davila
Pages Read: 13
Published: 2009
I can't really give a summary of the entire book but I can explain the theme. Since the book is a collection of short stories they only have a few things in common. The similarities I noticed throughout the stories I've read so far are the mistreatment of women being ignored and unseen forces tormenting others. I think Amparo Davila's goal with this book was to get people to understand the difficulties of being a woman and not being heard by putting it into a sort of horror/disturbing perspective by including supernatural forces. The books I have sort of switched back and forth between this marking period are 'The Houseguest' and 'No One Belongs Here More Than You'. Though I haven't finished either, since they are both a collection of short stories, I would defiantly rate both of these books a 4 on enjoyment. They have serious undertones while still being odd and enjoyable to just skin through every so often.

One Of Us Is Lying
Karen M. McManus
DOP: 2017
Pages read today: 16 (pages 220 to 236)

I chose this image because every time you turn a page in this book you're learning something new about the characters and taking a "peek" into their life. However, sometimes, you may see something you probably weren't supposed to see (or just something you would've been better off not seeing). I still don't know enough about the characters to make an "I think" prediction. The only "I think" response I have from what I just read would be: I think two certain characters in this book would be an amazing couple and I really really think they should get together right now. But referring to the main plot of this book, I have no idea who might've put peanut oil in the guy's water at the moment, I'm just trying to process and understand what the characters are experiencing right now.
