When in collaboration with others, brainstorming is an effective way to keep interactions successful because this particular solution allows for everyone’s opinion to be heard without being judged. In the midst of brainstorming, one can also use brainwriting especially if limited on time so therefore if everyone is not able to speak in the brainstorming process, their idea can still be valued through brainwriting by them sharing their ideas in a written form. After everyone's ideas are heard, one can determine the pros/cons of a solution when selecting one using plus/minus implications.

During the selection of solution process groups should consider everyone’s preference, feasibility, and intrusiveness towards the selected solution. Implementation of solutions occurs right after while implementation of solutions should at least include the plan for the solution’s success, detailed arrangements, time to evaluate the solution outcome, and more. The evaluation of the solution is an essential step in this process because it ensures that the goal of the problem solving and interaction is reached.

In the education workforce field and in other professions, people will always come in contact with each other by one most likely collaborating with others on a job. During collaborations, one must be aware that there will be some disagreements at times while one way to successfully collaborate with others is through group problem solving. Group problem solving is a problem solving method that requires one to implement all of the basic problem solving skills plus additional skills. An educator can encounter problems such as beliefs between them and a colleague clashing, encountering someone who has bias on a background a student may come from, and even problems that may arise from a parent to teacher relationship.

Along with group problem solving, one can take note of the skills of reactive and proactive problem solving. Reactive problem solving is a method in which one would respond to a specific problem in a short time frame, while proactive problem solving is when a problem is solved before a full crisis occurs. However, skills used in reactive and proactive problem solving can be implemented into group problem solving, while all of these skills combined will make one interaction with others more successful.

In order to properly group problem solve, one must follow steps to achieve the effectiveness that the group problem solving method can offer when collaborating. Steps to group problem solving can include identifying the problem, generating and evaluating solutions, selecting and implementing solutions, and evaluating the outcome. After using divergent and convergent elements to help one fully identify the problem at hand, then one can use various ways to think of solutions to resolve this problem. Various ways can include one brainstorming a solution, brainwriting, or one using the nominal group technique.
