in unit 2 i learned that alot of canadas industry is imports and exports, imports is when one country buys goods/services from another country and gets them "imported" to their country, for example canada buys goods and services from USA. Exports is when a country sells their goods or services to another country, for example USA buys canadas goods/services and thats called exports. selling canadas water is directly connected to canadas industry and canadas profit because i also learned that one of our big exported items is fresh drinking water because Canada has 7% of the whole worlds fresh water. in ontario, kawartha lakes holds most of canadas fresh water.

in unit 1 we learned that climate is the accumulation of daily and seasonal weather events over a long period of time. We also learned that weather is the state of the atmosphere in terms of such variables such as temperature, cloudiness, precipitation, and radiation on a day to day basis. Another thing we learned were the 6 factors that affect climate, climate can be impacted by wind and air masses, latitude, relief, etc. an example for all of this information could be something like a pond in your backyard, in the summer it will most likely be hot outside and the pond will be the normal pond, where as in the winter it gets cold, and once the temperature reaches under 0 degrees celsius you will notice that your pond is starting to freeze, another factor that affects weather/climate is the temperature outside. there is factors that affect climate all over canada, but to name one i could say hamilton ontario because it gets really hot in the summer and really cold in the winter.

In unit 1 i learned that a natural disaster is the very harmful impact on a society or community after a natural hazard event. Some examples of natural hazard events include avalanches, droughts, earthquakes, floods, heat waves, landslides, tropical cyclones, volcanic activity and wildfires. i also learned that a landform region is an area of the earth with a unique set of physical features. The 7 landform regions of canada are the canadian shield, the western cordillera, the canadian arctic, the appalachian region, the interior plains, the hudson bay lowlands and the St. lawrence lowlands. The canadian shield (quebec, ontario, nunavut, and northwest territories) experiences earthquakes, freezing rain (which is considered hazardous), blizzards, tornadoes, these disasters mainly take place in quebec and ontario.

In unit 2 i learned that natural resources are the raw materials and sources of energy that we use. Petrol, metals, soil, sand, wind, water, and everything in between are natural resources. I also learned that natural resources are a big part of canada. decline in canadas fishing industry is obviously detrimental, as fishing is a big part of canadas industry/hunting. Fishing is in high demand and with that there needs to be more fish, and for that we need to fish more and it seems like we have been "overfishing". "Overfishing is a dangerous threat to Canada and has been an ongoing problem for a while now. overfishing affects canadas economy, climate change, and the oceans biodiversity loss and ocean health. Canadas fishing is one of our natural resources and is very important, but since the demand is so high, fishing has kind of gone to crap. "less than one third of canadas wild fisheries are considered healthy, and most critically depleted fish populations have no plan in place to rebuild them to healthy levels".

Canadas flow resources are running water, wind, and sunlight. A flow resource is something that flows or moves, flow resources are neither renewable or non renewable. A province is a region within a country, provinces are similar to states in the usa, but provinces in canada are bigger, but we have less provinces than usa has states. A wind turbine is considered a flow resource, and im sure you have seen wind turbines in person near your town/city, but heres the data "Ontario leads the way in Canada's wind energy production with 38%, with Quebec close behind at 28%, then it's Alberta which is number three on the list with 14% and British Columbia comes in at just 5%. The Northwest Territories produce 9.2 MW and the Yukon 0.9 MW of wind energy a year".

ethnic enclaves and immigration

in unit 3 we learned what ethnic enclaves are, they are areas/places with high cultural and ethnic concentration, if you went to one, for example Greek town, you will hear Greek music, see people from greece there, and see Greek food, long story short the whole enclave is based of of one country or culture. there are many all over the world especially in Toronto. In unit 3 we also learned what immigration is. i'm sure everyone already knows what immigration is but to refresh your memory, immigration is the action of coming to live in a foreign country permanently. Ethnic enclaves directly relate to immigration, as a lot of people that work in or are go to ethnic enclaves regularly, are immigrants. If you went to an ethnic enclave and asked some people where they are from they would probably say the country or place that the enclave is based on or that their parents are from that place or country.

in unit 3 we learned population is the number of people that live in a certain place, ex, "the population there is growing fast". We also learned that refugees are people that have been forced out of their country to flee a dangerous situation like war, terrorist attacks, persecution, or natural disasters. The amount of refugees entering Canada directly affects the population in Canada as the more people that come into Canada means that the number of people in Canada will grow, in 2022 roughly 140,621 refugees were transported to Canada to flee a bad/dangerous situation.

in unit 4 we learned about the 8 land uses, they are commercial, transportation, industrial, institutional, residential, agricultural, recreational, and open space. We also learned about ecological footprint. Ecological footprint is the impact you or a person have on the environment, similar to digital footprint but at the same time not in the slightest. Your ecological footprint or what your doing to get a higher ecological footprint score most likely involves one of the 8 land uses, for instance if your trying to curb how much gas you use for your car that gas that you buy was on land that is used for commercial or industrial use, or if you want to walk your dog more often that would most likely be on recreational, residential, or open space, or if you want to waste less food that food was most likely once on transportation, agricultural, or commercial land.

eco industries and sustainable communities

in unit 4 we learned all about Eco industries. Eco industries are companies that are providing good and services that focus on environmental protection and longevity, for my assignment i chose to do it on the brand Rothys. Rothys is an american direct-to-consumer company which designs and sells shoes and accessories that are Eco friendly. Their products are made out of single use plastic water bottles that would be sent to a landfill but instead they use it for making fashionable items. In unit 4 we also learned about sustainable communities, sustainable communities are communities that tend to focus on environmental and economic sustainability, urban infrastructure, social equality, and municipal government. Eco industries and sustainable communities directly connect and impact each other in my opinion because the Eco industrial companies like Rothys that give goods and services out of recycled water bottles most likely work with sustainable communities because the sustainable companies can find and direct people to give their recycling or garbage to a brand or company that needs and wants it instead of it just being sent to a landfill to rot away and to no good to the environment.

in unit 3 we learned what push and pull factors are, push factors encourage people to leave their points of origin and settle elsewhere, where as pull factors attract migrants to new areas. In unit 4 we learned what urban sprawl is, urban sprawl is defined as "the spreading of urban developments on undeveloped land near a city. An example of urban sprawl could be in woodstock, if you go back to something like 2015 in woodstock compared to 2025 theres alot more open land taken up for housing. Push and pull factors and urban sprawl relate to one another because the more people that decide the push and pull factors suggest they should move means that urban sprawling will happen if they move to a city, by the day more houses for rent are being built all over toronto, london, hamilton, really any city in ontario it feels.

in unit 3 we learned what population pyramids and birth rate is. A population pyramid is a graph that shows the distribution of a population by age and gender, while growing it usually takes the shape of a pyramid hence the name. Birth rate is the total number of human births per 1000 population for a given period divided by the length of the period in years. These 2 topics directly impact eachother as the more births there are the more people will be put on the graph meaning that the population will keep growing, and depending on how many people over the age of 60-70 die the population pyramid will keep its triangle type shape, unless the elder people on a specific countrys graph live long.
