1.) The character that is speaking is George. The word that he uses is "hoosegow", which is slang from George's dialect. This choice of word shows that they are in the "American West" because this is typically a common term used down there. The world usually is used as a synonym for jail. pg. 56

2.) "There's guys around here walkin' bow-legged 'cause they like to look at a kewpie doll lamp" pg.52

A kewpie doll lamp is a lamp that is built from a children's toy. Bow-legged people have leg stances that are slanted more out than others. All of this sets the tone that they are set in the real modern America.

3.) Slim says, "Well, you been askin' me too often. I'm gettin' God damn sick of it. If you can't look after your own God damn wife, what you expect me to do about it? You lay off a me" pg. 62

This shows how Slim speaks about things that annoy him. Slim is usually chilled and laid back until something around him is affecting him.

4.) "Come on, ya big bastard. Get up on your feet. No big son-of-a-bitch gonna laugh at me. I'll show ya who's Yella." pg. 62

This quote here shows the violence that can happen in the split of a second. It shows more of the environment and how they can use diction like this.
