I remember seeing Gary drive off-road on that big buell which was way too heavy for the trails. He wasn’t afraid at all and he wasn’t going slow either. He fell pretty bad that day but he stayed with us for the whole trip and even though he good injured he had such a positive and happy attitude. Playing as little boys, learning to ride bikes, baseball, waking me up at 5 to walk to D&W and surf all day. Loaning me his 64 Plymouth to take my girlfriend out when I was home on leave from the army. Gary will always be a part of me, and my happier moments of my life. In fact I think Norma used to get a bit nervous whenever we went out for a sail, as we were always getting into scrapes of one sort or another...Baja Mama breaking down halfway back to Loreto in the middle of the Summer, Drei’s engine going just as we were rounding a point on Isla Carmen in choppy seas, Gary and the guys running aground in the dark in front of Loreto one night (glad I wasn’t there for that one!), Gary and me capsizing the dinghy at about 7am one morning while we tried to rescue a kayak that had broken free during the night while anchored off Isla Carmen... 

But, we always got out of the scrapes - which made them fun - mainly because of Gary’s endless optimism...and his skill with a wrench didn’t hurt either.

Many happy memories. We’ll miss you Gary.

He fell in love with the mare, so I sold her to him with a promise of a future foal.
