This assignment was a great way to discover and collaborate with fellow colleagues. Each of us is participating in this program to help and facilitate wellness, and also because we understand the value and need for mental health.

What I appreciated most about this assignment was the information from the quizzes and, specifically, the reminder to pay attention to the body and brain connection and the way this relates to anxiety and stress.

As a future holistic practitioner, it will be incredibly useful to incorporate knowledge about the gut-brain connection as part of any cognitive and emotional wellness tools or practices that could be effective for clients.

The Channel Kindness quiz encouraged me to reflect on mental health stigma and its impact on the way people perceive themselves and whether or not they seek support. It also provided insight into how community attitudes of kindness and decreased stigma create a space for young people to develop more mentally healthily (Mahmood, 2018).

https://www.cdc.gov/mentalhealth/quiz/index.htm

https://www.health.harvard.edu/diseases-and-conditions/the-gut-brain-connection

https://www.channelkindness.org/mental-health-awareness-quiz/

The Mental Health Reference Guide provides at least a baseline knowledge of some of the most common mental health disorders and their subtypes.

As I do not intend to focus my future work exclusively on psychology-based or medical-based treatment, I find this guide to be incredibly useful. It provides a well-rounded concept of each mental health disorder and allows me to identify most symptoms of each disorder. From researching and gathering resources, I also realize I have access to a plethora of resources and treatment options that I can refer clients to, dependent on the specific disorder subtype or symptoms the individual may be experiencing.

https://www.nimh.nih.gov/health/find-help

https://www.mentalhealthfirstaid.org/mental-health-resources/

https://www.youtube.com/user/katimorton

This series is filled with so many different types and layers of trauma that it makes the perfect resource for students who are learning about and studying trauma. I found myself identifying in this series almost every category of trauma we learned about in the course this week.

More than just providing examples of primary trauma, secondary trauma, and organizational trauma, this series gives the audience a real sense of what young people today battle mentally, physically, emotionally, and socially in school settings.

I left the series with many critical reflections about school responses to bullying and how professionals and caretakes can recognize the signs of trauma and disturbance in teens.

What stood out for me as equally important to trauma resources and trauma-informed approaches is the community response and attitude toward suicide, bullying, and sexual abuse. This series was a strong, potent reminder that community support, safety, and openness can easily improve, and change, the outcome in many cases of teen trauma.

https://www.mentalhealthjournal.org/articles/commentary-thirteen-reasons-why:-the-impact-of-suicide-portrayal-on-adolescents-mental-health.html

https://rossieronline.usc.edu/blog/bullying-prevention-lesson-plans/

chrome-extension://efaidnbmnnnibpcajpcglclefindmkaj/https://www.pcar.org/sites/default/files/resource-pdfs/friends_and_family_guide_final.pdf
