First of all, in the daily life, you should limit the use of vehicles using gasoline and oil Instead, you should use your foot or public transport. That would at least help the environment if you can't do any of the above mentioned.

Next, save the energy is very necessary to protect the environment what helps our save the resources to generate energy. It’s very simple such as: turn off lights, fans,… when we don’t use. 

Moreover, cleaning up the environment and separating waste also make an important contribution to saving the earth. Limiting direct waste discharge into the environment.

Second is also foremost things, in the job, you need to find suitable solutions to protect the environment.. By developing hydrogen combustion engines, the emissions will be drastically decreased. Immediate solution will be use of biofuel and CNG which emits lot less pollutants than other fossil fuels like gasoline and diesel. 

Next, use of solar panels for electric generation as much as possible. I know it can't entirely be a substitute of thermal power and hydroelectric power but still can be used to reduce the emissions.

Thirdly, power can be generated by using a hydrogen fuel cell which combines hydrogen and oxygen in a reactor and captures the energy of fusion as electricity.

Furthermore, another method of quick battery charging is the Nano Flow Cell technology. It combines Sodium ion (Na+) and chlorine ion (Cl-) in a reactor which generates electricity the same as the hydrogen fuel cell but the difference is here ions are used instead of full atoms. So, here literally your vehicle is running on salt water.

Last but not least,, create awareness. As a mechanical engineer, you can do some seminars in rural areas and rural schools about the use of clean fuel and avoid cutting down of trees for the cooking fuels. This campaign can have a major effect on rural development and environment degradation.
