The book Look Both Ways focuses on middle school life in Latminer Middle School and focuses on how kids can very in middle school. Like the Low cut compared to TJ and Jasmine with how the Low cuts lives are very different then TJ and Jasmine. The author Jason Reynolds made this book because if relates to his middle school life and he wants to share those experiences in a different way.

Theme Exploration

Friendship affects people in positive ways. An example is how in the Low cuts the group goes to get candy from the old lady and then goes to the bar to then sell the candies. This shows them exploring in ways to make money and them literally explore. Where is is shown is in theses quotes, "Ms. Ceecee had been the neighborhood candy lady since the Low cuts parents had been kids". (27-28), and shows where Miss Ceecee is at and shows there exploration to make money. Another way that the low cuts show Theme Exploration is, "A Block down the street that came up to a building that looked like an old house but had a sign out front. Placer pool".(34)This shows that the Low cuts again explored the area to find a place to make money. Everything mentioned goes back to how this story connects to Theme Exploration.

Character Analysis

One way Character Analysis is show in the story Look Both Ways is when Simeon helps Kenzi in ways she cant help herself like in the hallways and doing physical things due to her size. Kenzi also helps Simeon in ways he can't help himself by being his friend and talking to him because people don't talk to him because of his size. Also in the short story "Water Booger Bears" thats in the book Look Both ways, Jasmine dares TJ to eat a mosquito. A quote that shows Character Analysis is "he clapped a mosquito dead right when it had bitten him, then licked the fly slime off his arm"(4). This shows friendship with how Jasmine and Tj dare each other and bond together. This helps develop the characters and gives us a better understanding.

A way Literary Devices and Structures are show is how in "Water Booger Bears" Jasmine and TJ have "Friendship flags" which is trash slipped into each others lockers but each TJ and Jasmine take the trash as notes saying "I miss you". Simeon and kenzi also talk to each other like "brothers". Thats shows that the kids in the story show Literary Devices and Structure. "Friendship Flags. The little of love"(3). "were basically notes that said I've missed you"(3). These both point out how the trash is changes into messages Between TJ and Jasmine.

Personal Reflection and Conclusion

The book Look Both Ways Really relates to me because I feel the topics this book focuses on really happen in middle school. With the way that the low cuts are teated differently just because of something they cant control is really rude and happens alot in middle school. Like the way someone works or with how someone is built. But things like friendship happen too like Between TJ and Jasmine and Kenzi and Simeon. The thing with the friendship in middle school is how now I go to a private school and so I don't get to connect with my middle school friends anymore so i don't really relate to the friendship part anymore.
