1. I learned that books can be poems and still tell a great story. I loved the relationships that are in the books that Kwame wrote. Even though they all had troubles, they loved each other and tried to help others out.
2. It makes me realize that you need to persevere and never give up on things you believe in. When I think about school and writing that is difficult, I know that I can edit until I can feel successful with my work and proud that I have done my best.

I've learned a lot from this author. One thing was to have perseverance and that not everything comes the first time you try. When we went to visit him he told us that when he was writing his book: Crossover, that he had to keep going back to his favorite writing spot, Panara and trying again because publishers disapproved and wouldn't publish it. So eventually he gave up until he decided to publish it himself! Kwame has made an impact on me because in Crossover he talks a lot about family relationships and I have a lot of troubles with my sibling and in Crossover he has a powerful message about family and how its ok for siblings to fight. He has helped me as a reader/writer to make sure that my work is my best work and to persevere because most of the time theirs a good outcome.

1. I learned from reading Kwame Alexander's books is to never give up. I find that in both "The Crossover," "Booked," and "The Playbook" that message is strongly said and comes out multiple times. Like Josh says "never let anyone lower your goals." Also, when Kwame spoke he talked a lot about being put down, but to come to his future success he needed to get back up.
2. I think the biggest impact it's made on me is to know that even though it might be a struggle, if you try hard you'll most likely get your goal. More recently I find myself trying to find ways around obstacles instead of walking away.
3. I think this has helped me as a reader and writer because it opens my eyes to new ways of writing, creating more of a variety for me when I write. Also, before I read Kwame Alexander's books I might've not even considered reading a book about poetry. Reading Kwame Alexander's books have really opened my horizons.

It has also made me feel like sometimes it is OK for me to be mad.
3. It has helped me by elaborating and helping m understand that yes, I will have to re-write things. It has also helped me ask myself more questions while reading. Finally, it has helped me be a better person.

For me Kwame Alexander has been a very influential person. The first thing that he has taught me is that perseverance is the key to success. When, he first started writing his book many publishers rejected it so he would go to his favorite writing spot Panera and rewrite the book. The publishers still didn't like it, but Kwame didn't give up he thought of a way to get his book published and ended up publishing it himself. Another thing, has taught me is that no matter what color you are or how you look we're all equal. Lots of people have said this to me but coming from Kwame made me think about it even more. You should never judge people on their color or size or looks judge them on how they treat you and there personality. Kwame has made me do things in my life differently for the better. When I see someone who looks like they're having a hard time or sad I go up to them and I ask what's wrong even if they're not my best friend. I've learned to be happy and thankful for what I have and to always be myself. Kwame has helped me as a writer by teaching me about poetry. poetry is a way to show feelings, and one way Kwame does this is by word choice. He uses words like calamity and pockertutious. Now I have more varieties and choices to make my story the best it can be.

--------------------Be A Star--------------------

I learned from Kwame Alexander that life is a game you either "dribble, fake, shoot, miss." This means that sometimes in life you are going to keep trying and trying, but you are still not going to get it. In the end though, there will be a good turn out like in the last verse of the poem from Playbook, 52 rules to shoot and miss "dribble, fake, shoot, swoosh." Kwame Alexander has made an impact on me because sometimes in life I feel like giving up, but Kwame Alexander has influenced me that you should never give up. Kwame Alexander has been a great inspiration has a reader and writer by writing his books in a such a creative way that is poetry. I think poetry is a great way of expressing feelings through a book. Kwame Alexander also uses amazing word choice, like pokertoutious when describing Miss Sweet Tea in Crossover. The main thing Kwame Alexander taught me is to never give up.
             -Always be a star-

1. I have leaned that I should never give up. I learned that when you never give up even when you failed a lot of times to publish your book. I think it is really cool how you did that because if I tried to publish a book and failed just twice I would probably give up.
2. After that experience I think the impact on me was now I think if I work hard I can accomplish my dreams.
3. This changed me as a reader by making me open my eyes to what books can relate to the real world even if it is Fantasy.

1. I've mostly learned about persevering from this wonderful, humorous, repetitive author. He showed how you should never give up when things are hard. When I met him, when I was listening to him, every single word I heard about wouldn't had happened if he didn't use persistence.
2. The visit made an impact on me because he was so amazing! It changed me to be a better person. To have a better personality and to have better jokes because he's so hilarious! When he gave me that shirt, he didn't just made my day, he made my YEAR!!!
