Corporal punishment should not be allowed in schools as they can lead to psychological and mental trauma to the student. Many studies have shown that physical punishment, including spanking, hitting and other means of causing pain, can lead to increased aggression, antisocial behaviour, and mental health problems for students. If corporal punishment were to be used as the consequence for misbehaviour, chances are the student would link physical punishment to bad behaviour. This can create an unhealthy environment of fear and anxiety in the school, negatively affecting students

Some may say that corporal punishment is appropriate for recalcitrant behaviour, but i beg to differ. Although corporal punishment can deter potential troublemakers, there is a particular group of delinquents that take pride in being physically punished. To them, they see it as an achievement that they have gotten some form of corporal punishment and would continue their unhealthy habit of misbehaving. A much better alternative would be to send them to a juvenile centre instead, as the student would no longer be able to cause trouble in the school while also being punished for his or her actions.

Research has shown that many other methods of discipline are effective in promoting self-control, eliminating undesirable behaviors and promoting desired behaviors in children.
3. Some may argue that corporal punishment should be allowed so as to act as a deterrence from doing wrong and may reduce the number of wrongdoings. However, this may teach children that to settle interpersonal conflicts one should use physical force and inflict pain.
4. Miguel

1. I believe that corporal punishment should not be allowed in schools.
2. Corporal punishment should not be allowed in schools as this will triggers harmful psychological and physiological responses.Students not only experience pain, sadness, fear, anger, shame and guilt, but feeling threatened also leads to physiological stress and the activation of neural pathways that support dealing with danger. For example, students who have been physically punished tend to exhibit high hormonal reactivity to stress, overloaded biological systems, including the nervous, cardiovascular and nutritional systems, and changes in brain structure and function. Therefore, corporal punishment should not be allowed in schools because it will cause physical and mental damage to the students.
3. Some may agree that corporal punishment should be allowed in schools as it sets clear boundaries and motivates children to behave in school. However,I beg to differ.Corporal punishment creates a cycle of violence , increases children’s behavioural problems over time and has no positive outcomes. And linked to a range of negative outcomes for children across countries and cultures, including physical and mental ill-health, impaired cognitive and socio-emotional development, poor educational outcomes. Thus, I still believe that corporal punishment should not be allowed in schools.
4. This can be seen in how students who have been physically punished may inflict physical harm to others if they commit wrongdoing This is due to the student's mindset that people would need to have physical punishment for their wrongdoings.
3. some may say that corporal punishment is effective and efficient but I beg to differ as physical punishment may not address the underlying causes of wrongdoing hence the misconceptions aren't corrected and the student may not learn from their wrongdoing.

1. Corporal punishment should not be allowed in schools as it may affect the way students view school.
2. If students are excessively exposed to violence, it will create an unsafe learning environment for students. Schools are usually seen as a place where students interact, where they can unleash their lively nature. However, if corporal punishment were to be permitted, students may feel controlled and insecure, constantly fearing for when the next punishment will come. Students will no longer enjoy school as much as they do before, creating a sense of dread every time they come to school.

3. Some may say corporal punishment allows students to learn better as students will be deterred from committing wrong acts. However, i beg to differ. I feel that corporal punishment instead, will impede the learning process of students. Students have to enjoy learning in order for it to be effective. If corporal punishment is introduced, students can gradually lose interest in their studies. Thus, corporal punishment in schools seems to be ineffective, dangerous and an unacceptable method of controlling and maintaining behavior and discipline as it brings more harm the good.

4.

1. Corporal punishment should not be allowed in schools as it affects a student's physical and mental health.
2. With students being constantly exposed to a violent environment in schools, it could potentially cause them to develop behavioural issues by triggering harmful psychological responses. Students look up to teachers as role models. The behaviour and actions of a teacher represent what is normal in society. If physical punishment is conducted, students will think that violence is acceptable in society and more young people may start fights.
3. Some may say that corporal punishment is beneficial and should be allowed in schools, as it creates fear to prevent students from making the same mistakes again. However, i beg to differ. With students studying in a fearful environment, it affects their ability to learn as they are more focused on making it through the day without getting punished. School should also be a safe space for everyone to learn, without constantly worrying about consequences that they could face.
4. Esther

I believe that corporal punishment should not be allowed in schools. One reason would be due to the psychological damage of the child. Even though corporal punishment serve as a deterrent, it also causes children to suffer from physical, mental and emotional pain. Corporal punishments like canning can leave a bruise and a scar that can stay with them for the rest of their life. These bruises or scars became a painful reminder and a horrifying experience for them. Even after they graduated, they can still be traumatised from this painful experience, resulting in mental damage for the children. Not only does it cause physical and mental damages, it also cause emotional damage. As teachers are usually the one carrying out the canning, children become scared of the teachers. When they are in need of adult’s support or help, they will not turn to their Teachers as they will think that their Teachers will give out punishment instead. Teachers no longer become the children’s pillar of support or adults they can trust and rely on, children have lesser adults they trust in times of danger or help. This can cause emotional pain as the adults that teach them everyday are the ones that will give out punishments to them. Therefore, corporal punishment is harmful to children’s physical, mental and emotional state of health.

Some may say that corporal punishment helps serve as a deterrent to children. Even though in our parents’ generation, children there were more disciplined and well-behaved which was due to the corporal punishment they will receive when they disobey the rules. Corporal punishment allows children to know the consequences to when they disobey the rules. As they will remember the pain of corporal punishment, they will highly remember the reason of why they receive the punishment. This will discourage children from breaking the rules again or making the same mistakes again. However, I beg to differ that corporal punishment is limited to only some children and it does not always has a long terms effect on some children. There will still be some children who are aggressive and they will become more rebellious even after they receive corporal punishment. Hence, corporal deterrent does not serves as deterrent to all children and all children will not necessarily become obedient even after receiving corporal punishment.

1) corporal punishment is a disciplinary method where the person will be hurt physically. this should not be allowed in schools as it not only affects one physically but mentally as well.
forms of such punishment include caning and flogging, which can be very painful. i believe that students who are being punished for having gone against school rules should not experience any sort of pain especially in school, which is meant to be a safe, nurturing environment for learning. for the institution to allow corporal punishment for students, this would certainly not be a “safe” environment anymore. students will associate school with the feeling of fear and may change their perceptions of it, hence not want to go to school. students will be hurt emotionally as they may suffer phsycologically from the incident like developing trauma. such form of punishment may not even be effective in deterring some from breaking the rules as well. furthermore its the teachers, who play a role not only to educate students but also a trusted adult for them to go to of they need help. this will make students be afraid, lose trust with their teachers and then not share anything to them.

3) on the other hand, people may say that it will deter students from breaking the rules and for offenders, they will learn from their mistakes. this may not be entirely true as ultimately it is up to the individual if they learn from their mistakes. for example, repeated sex offenders have already recieved caning, yet they still continue to do such acts. this shows that despite facing corporal punishment there are those who still do not learn from their mistakes. corporal punishment also does not explain to the student why they have done something wrong in the first place and will not show them what they should do. for instance, a serious problem on the rise in schools is underage smoking. corporal punishment will not explain to them that smoking is against the rules as it has detrimental effects on one’s health. hence, they may continue to repeatedly go against the school rules. therefore, although some may say it is a good method to stop people from breaking rules, it has been proven that it is not effective.

4) meryle :))

Corporal punishment should not be allowed in schools as it can affect students both physically and mentally in a negative way. Corporal punishment such as canning can lead to physical hurt and scars which will remind them of an awful past which can deeply affect them even after graduation and longer thus affecting them mentally. If corporal punishment is carried out in school there will be fear and anxiety in the school and also there will be lack of trust on the Teachers from the students as they fear the Teachers that carry out corporal punishment.

Some may say that corporal punishment can act as a deterrent for students to be well behaved in school. However, i beg to differ. Corporal punishment can deeply affect the students in both physical and mental aspects and corporal punishment does not ensure that all students will follow the rules as some may not learn from their mistakes and be repeated offenders. Corporal punishment also does not tell them what is the right thing to do which also does not help students to learn from their mistakes. Thus, corporal punishment is not very effective in ensuring discipline and should not be carried out in school.

Zhi Qian

2)Corporal punishment should not be allowed in schools as it affects one’s physical and mental state. Examples of corporal punishments include canning and flogging which may result in permanent damage to both the body and brain. Such experiences will scar them throughout their lives, and even influencing their line of thoughts. They may also develop a fear of the teachers as the relationship between the student and tutor worsen. Moreover, there are other punishments such as detention or suspension that allows students to reflect upon themselves without the use of violence. Thus, Corporal punishment is an ineffective method of correct the ways of a student’s wrongdoings.

3) Some say that corporal punishment serves as a deterrent to students from misbehaving, however I beg to differ. Although it is able to instil a sense of fear on students, one is unable to ignore the following repercussions of this punishment. The incident can lead to mental trauma, increased risk of anxiety and sudden panic attacks. Instead of obeying the teachers, students may attempt to retaliate, and go against their instructions. Hence, students cannot understand the reason why the decision they have made is wrong or reflect over them. Therefore, corporal punishment should not be allowed in schools.

4) Sharynn

I believe corporal punishment should not be used in schools.

Corporal punishments creates long term harms that may affect the students mentally and physically. For example, it creates problematic behaviour as they are most likely to respond with aggression and have problems paying attention compared to students who receive other forms of punishment. The harmful effects that corporal punishment give the students can lead them to abusing substances, depression, stress and anxiety. It leads them to think that violence is the answer to gaining the higher power against the other students in the school, resulting in bullying and torment. Hence why corporal punishment should not be allowed in schools

On the other hand corporal punishment can also be a punishment that students prefer. Since caning is the most common form of corporal punishment in schools, students are most likely to choose caning over other forms of punishments such as detention or suspension as caning is a much more swift and easy punishment to get over with. But caning might not be sufficient enough for students to learn their lesson as it is too quick and does not give students time to reflect on their actions, whereas detention give students to reflect on their actions allowing them to correct and learn from their mistakes. Thus why corporal punishment should still not be allowed in schools.

-kai

By using corporal punishments in school, it may potentially lead to psychological damage to the child, and cause them to be affected in a bad way. For example, caning a student in front of the entire school may cause the student to feel embarrassed and no matter how grave the situation is, they do not have the right to be humiliated upon by so many people, especially the Teachers this way. Schools should not only teach students to be textbook-smart but in terms of character too, such as teaching them how to be a better person for the society. Hence students should all receive a second chance, and if they keep on making such offences, they may be going through some problems at home, and should be referred to a councillor.

Students are also precious children to their parents, and if the teacher cannot convince the student who is in the wrong to change his mind, they should leave it to the parents to educate their child properly, instead of going ahead with the punishment as and whenever they want. As a child, their parents would have been the first ones to educate their own child about learning how to read, how to write and behaviour when outside. A teacher is responsible for the child in school and should know a bit about their student’s family background, but they should not pry too much as it would be an invasion of their own privacy. Hence, if the teacher has tried and put in their effort and the student still continues, the teacher should leave it to the parents or a councillor to find out what or why the child is doing this.

Corporal punishment should not be allowed in schools because it does not allow holistic development to take place. For example, in schools, corporal punishment will only make the student dread being caught for doing bad acts, and it will foster an environment of fear in the students.

Coporal punishment shoiuyld not be allowed in schoolks. It would cuase long term harms on the students mentally and physically. Students would be accustomed to use violence in their everyday life and would think that society accepts such behaviour. when they grow up, some may develop some deficiencies and may face diffifucltyie sin the future. Although soporal punishment iis one of the ways to prevent students from making the same mistalke, school is a place where one would feel safe to learn.

No, corporal punishment should not be allowed in schools.

The American Academy of Pediatrics says corporal punishment “may contribute to disruptive and violent student behavior.”

Children who experience corporal punishment are more likely to hit or use other violence against people in order to get their way, putting other children at risk for increased bullying and physical abuse and teachers in potentially violent classrooms.

The American Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry stated, “Corporal punishment signals to the child that a way to settle interpersonal conflicts is to use physical force and inflict pain. Such children may in turn resort to such behavior themselves.” Although corporal punishment can teach students to better behave themselves and not repeat such mistakes, or perhaps, witness their peers getting punished over certain mistakes, and thus, not do such wrongdoings. Corporal punishment still harms the well being of students and it is not healthy for them. Students will have a mindset thinking that violence is the way to settle wrongdoings, even the slightest mistake.
Hence, I believe corporal punishment shouldn’t be allowed in schools.

andrei
Corporal punishment falls under the umbrella of operant conditioning, or more specifically positive punishment. It is an example of presenting an aversive stimulus to students to deter bad behaviour. Some may say that there are other ways to deter bad behaviour in students. I say this much is true, there are other ways, like negative punishment, or taking something good away from students when they have done something bad. However, this may not always work all the time. I think corporal punishment should be used as a last resort

Can be caused by corporal punishment it helps motivated people to work harder and become the best version of themselves.
4.kaize

This house believe that Corporal punishments should be allowed in school.
Corporal punishment use physical punishment to help change the child’s behaviour through pain. As a parent, if we do not raise the child correctly, without using caning or physical punishment, the child will not learn from their mistake and change their attitude. Corporal punishment can help the child to learn and not repeat the same mistake again. So that in the future the child will not get into bigger trouble and having to face more severe punishment if he/she was taught to not do those wrongdoing. Corporal punishment help to discourage students to stay away from doing things that are illegal.

1) I believe that corporal punishment should not be allowed in school as it may make the students antagonise the staff conducting the corporal punishment.
2) When corporal punishment is issued onto the offender, they might keep on repeating the offence as it will not provide the offender the time to reflect on their actions, thus the offender does not correct their unacceptable behaviour. Let’s refer to the United States Prison System and the Scandinavian Prison System for a second. The United States Prison System uses corporal punishment on their inmates while it’s counterpart uses rehabilitation on their inmates. However, this one difference on how they treat offenders are very apparent. The United States Prision System has constant conflicts between inmates and the guards as the guards use corporal punishment against the inmates, thus the inmates will antagonise against the guards. However, the Scandinavian Prison System allows inmates to create relations with their inmates, thus rehabilitating inmates behaviour while fostering good relations. This case scenario has shown that corporal punishment could negatively harm the offender’s psychological and emotional behaviour. Thus, I believe that corporal punishment should not be allowed in school as they can be negative in one’s psyche and there are other much better alternatives then corporal punishment.
3) Some may say that Corporal Punishment should be allowed in schools as it deters students from breaking the school rules. However, I beg to differ. Schools are supposed to be a safe and condusive environment for students to learn. If the punishments are in such scale as corporal punishment, it may cause fear against the staff, which may cause stress and disrupt them from learning productively. Thus I believe that corporal punishment should not be allowed in schools.
