Marie Curie was a scientist who studied radioactivity, a property of certain atoms that causes them to release energy. She discovered two new elements, polonium and radium, and became the first woman to win a Nobel Prize. She continued her research despite working in difficult conditions and facing obstacles because she was a woman in a field dominated by men. Her discoveries eventually helped scientists develop new ways to study and treat diseases.
