Resiliency and Success in Wall Street Trading

Guided by longtime day trader and entrepreneur Kunal Desai, Bulls on Wall Street offers actionable pathways toward generating consistently profitable trading results. Interviewed on traits that make a successful trader by The Guy Society, Kunal Desai brought focus to the concept of resiliency.

One core aspect of resiliency involves shaking off losses and taking lessons learned to heart. When a setback occurs, the best approach is not to give up but to get back to work and grind it out. Desai describes a situation in which a hot streak suddenly ends and a couple brutal days threaten to snowball and create unsustainable losses. An important aspect of bouncing back in this situation is to carefully document the trades undertaken and analyze statistics on what works and what doesn’t.

When slumps hit, Desai shifts from speculative approaches to go to trading strategies that have generated consistent results in the past. He simplifies processes, while returning to equity plays that he feels confident will get him back into positive territory.

Three Pieces of Required Tech for Stock Trading

Since its establishment in 2008, Bulls on Wall Street has provided daily stock trading alerts and a range of educational courses, including its “Bulls 60-Day Trading Bootcamp” and “Intro to Trading,” both to help novice traders understand the market and develop the skills of experienced traders. To find success as a trader, Bulls on Wall Street recommends equipping yourself with three key pieces of technology:

1. A powerful computer. A computer running the latest Windows operating system is essential to successful trading. Ideally, the machine should have a powerful processor and a minimum of eight gigabytes of Random Access Memory (RAM), particularly if you engage in short-term trading. Further, equip the machine with antivirus software, especially if the computer is used for purposes other than trading.

2. Multiple computer monitors. Stock information comes from a variety of sources, so using multiple monitors saves time you would waste switching between different sources. Most traders maintain a system that uses two to four monitors.

3. Reliable Internet service. A drop in Internet connectivity restricts your access to the latest developments, which means you can’t react as quickly as you should. Fiber optic connections are optimal, though cable modems usually prove reliable.

Taking Advantage of a Market Overreaction to Brazilian Scandal

Focused on results, Bulls on Wall Street offers an education platform that enables subscribers to achieve measurable, consistent trading success. Guided by lead instructor and CEO Kunal Desai, Bulls on Wall Street builds on a personal system developed during the Dotcom boom years.

In a recent website article, Kunal Desai focused on trading strategies in the aftermath of the Brazilian President being bought up on bribery charges. As he described it, this was a situation in which the market overreacted, as it tends to in situations perceived as out of the norm. This led to his team trading the exchange-traded fund (ETF) BRZU, which represents Brazil as a country.

The day began with Mr. Desai following a sudden 15 percent drop in EWZ, an ETF that represents the overall Brazilian market. With the ETF approaching its daily support level, the decision was made to trade BRZU, which is the 3x ETF for EWZ and thus provides extra leverage.

Finding a double bottom for BRZU, Mr. Desai took long positions once it broke above trend lines. Wary of the huge range, he scaled up this position gradually as BRZU rebounded from a low of $24. He had sold all of the shares by the time the stock reached $29.47. This quick recognition of a market overreaction and double-bottom buy situation led to thousands of dollars in profits.v

He advises individuals to:

1. Follow your passion. When asked to describe the epiphany that led him to pursue trading full-time, Mr. Desai described the moment less as a sudden realization and more as a consistent state of being. “When you dream about making great trades,” he said, “You’re a trader!” Although it took him time to hone his craft, Kunal Desai felt obligated to pursue the passion that truly brought him joy, and it eventually paid off.

2. Manage your time wisely. In order to have time for both work and play, professionals must approach each day in a strategic fashion, prioritizing tasks to maximize both time and energy.

3. Make your passion a commitment. Mr. Desai admitted that if he could change one thing about his professional trajectory, he would have spent more time preparing to trade full-time.
