Mycenae dominated most of Southern Greece and was the largest military stronghold. Mycenae was one of the major centers of Greek civilization. Settlements started to form during the Bronze Age. In 1200 BC, Mycenae started to lose it's dominance and it started to decline, causing the place to collapse. It is not known what caused the civilization to decline, but theories say either a drought or due to the Dorian Invasion.
