When he saw yellow spotted lizards crawling on Stanley he did nothing which brought out his true character.

He cannot read and his language is not the best but he is very smart in situations. Zero usually doesn't talk to Squid or Armpit because they always make fun of him for something. Later in the book Zero tells Stanley how he got to camp green lake and Stanley finds out that Zero is the one who actually stole the shoes and tossed them off the bridge at Stanley.

The setting of this story is camp green lake. Everything takes place there and that is where the campers dig there holes. The camp was kinda like a small village with tents lifted off the ground so that water couldn't get in. The place was super dusty and it never rained. You had to wear long clothes even though it was hot because if you didn't you would get bad sun burn. Last the camp was in a far away place from everything so even if the campers wanted to escape they would die in starvation because nothing was even close to the camp
