Ole Time Wedding

This wedding is a re-enactment of what weddings were once like in Tobago and reflects the European influence on Tobagonians. The men are dressed in black stovepipe/top hats for this mock wedding, black and white three-piece suits (including compulsory scissor tail coats), bow ties, white gloves and umbrellas to shade their female partners. As they wear bustle skirts, wide-brimmed hats decorated with flowers and as much jewelry as possible, the women are also a sight to behold. The Ole Time Wedding is a happy event where both the bride and groom are usually heckled by family members of either the partner or a jilted lover during the ceremony.

In Tobago, the second largest city is that of Roxborough. The village of Roxborough organized a cultural exhibition during the inaugural Heritage Festival. The Folk Dances of Tobago, such as the reel, lancers, jig, heel-toe, cotillon and tango. The combination of African and European dance customs is illustrated by these folk dances. These dances were an integral part of Tobagonian social life and continue to be a highlight of the Tobago Heritage Festival.

Goat Races

The Goat Races occurs in the village of Buccoo. Goat racing normally takes place around Easter Tuesday and is also part of the Tobago Heritage Festival. Sometimes referred to as the "poor man's replacement" for horse racing, Barbadian Samuel Callendar first brought goat racing to the village of Buccoo in 1925. A staple of the Heritage Festival is this intensely competitive sport, as only champion goats are allowed to race. The Goat Race was one of the activities during the inaugural festival put on by the village of Bucco and has been extremely popular since then.
