On the one hand, is Victor who is tormented by his dead girlfriend who came back to life as a ghost, and the fact that he can´t be with his other love. And on the other hand, is Emily who had died tragically very young and had discovered her fiance´s betrayal.  

Finally, the movie covers topics such as grief, guilt, tragic romance and death, especially this one, that are very essential for this emblematic poet. Another very important theme for Poe is the presence of the supernatural, like the girlfriend's ghost in the “Corpse Bride”, which is also really seen in his works. 

Then, talking about the main characters, it can be seen that they are clearly full of Gothic elements. On the one hand, Victor is a truly isolated young man. He feels like an outsider with his new upper class family, and after that, in the world of the dead.On the other hand, we have the corpse bride. She has dark eyes, an exaggerated pale skin and her movements are rare and spooky. It can be also recognized in her, the component of love. Despite her being a dead person, she still develops some sort of feelings for Victor, being like that a forbidden love.

 All of these elements that I mentioned before, come together to create an intense and gloomy film, having the perfect qualities to belong to the gothic genre, as it includes all the characteristics Edgar Allan Poe described when he talked about it.

After watching the movie "Corpse Bride," we can confirm that it is a gothic film. We will analyze this cinematic piece from the perspective of Edgar Allan Poe's gothic literature and identify many elements characteristic of his writing.

The first characteristic that we notice is the setting. It's a dark and sad town, even considered sinister, with abandoned streets, trees without leaves, a lugubrious castle, and a big, enormous, spooky, ghostly forest, among other features.

We also can notice the fiscal appearance of the characters, the pale skin, the baggy eyes, the neutral colors of clothes, the seriousness, and the old view they have and show.

After watching the movie "Corpse Bride" by Tim Burton I can say that it has a lot of characteristics of Edgar Allan Poe's writing (Gothic genre), such as dark atmosphere, romance and themes of death.

• Dark atmosphere: the movie mostly happens in dark places, such as the woods at night and "dead World". These places were creepy and give the feeling that they were dangerous.

• Romance: we can see this is one of the main themes of the movie. The romance happens between Victor Van Dort and Victoria Everglot, we can tell that they seem to like each other when Victor plays the piano, despite being scared of getting married without knowing about each other.

• Themes of death: well, this point is kind of obvious, since the movie tells us the story of Victor who accidentally got married to Emily, a dead woman. In the movie, they show us the "World of the dead" and how dead people are there because they still have to accomplish something in the "living World".

In conclusion, Tim Burton was available to create this incredible movie with all this gothic elements together that I mentioned before.
