The law allowed the president to be able to draft men between the ages of 21-31 into the military. This helped boost the numbers greatly, by creating a larger and stronger military it gave the U.S the upper hand.

The spanish influenza could not have happened at a worse time then in the middle of a war. The pandemic went on from 1918-1919 killing anywhere from 20-40 million people. And sadly half of the men in the war serving over in Europe died from the pandemic not the enemy.

The draft was needed, but men did not want to volunteer and the spanish influenza played a part because then the men who volunteered would not just have to worry about the enemy they would have to worry about dying from a flu.

Women in WW1 were involved in the vital munitions factories, building ships and doing labor such as loading and unloading coal. They took on the role back home when their loved ones were serving, and if the women were over in Europe fighting they took on an even bigger role there.
