Ian

Online searches: Everything I search may be pushed back to me in other areas of my life. A prominent example would be when I was looking to buy a pair of new sneakers on Adidas, I noticed a lot of ads on other pages like social media or websites were all about sneakers. It's scary how all these platforms are all interconnected with one another.

Social media algorithms: Social media algorithms are self-explanatory as they collect information based on your likes, scrolls, posts and followers. They collect that data and share it with other companies with capitalist ideals, only to push more advertising back to the consumer.

Daily shopping: Coles and Woolworths do a rewards program where every receipt shopped at one of the outlets helps the consumer gain points for every purchase, however they are also collecting information on your typical grocery list, pushing deals on your favourite items and incentivising you to buy more.

At first I may not have the intention to buy it but after a period of time being pushed by the platform, I start to finalize the purchase of that product

Comment function

- When I post some status on Fb, the notification of who comment on my post, who is typing and the hundreds of reply recommendation make me have to stay in the app to interact the whole day in order to keep the socialization, which is not necessarily to be considered.

Is it really a voluntary purchase?

-When we scroll through Tik-tok, Weibo, Instagram, Facebook, my likes, comments, and time spent will be recorded. The algorithm pushes content that I like, but it doesn't let me see information that might challenge my views, leading to more and more single-minded thinking. My time and attention are being exploited. My idea comes from?

When I search on Google or watch videos on TikTok, my activity is tracked. This data is then used to suggest more content and target me with personalised ads. I feel like my choices are being shaped by algorithms. I often spend more time online than I planned, influenced by what the platform wants me to see.

Google Maps and Location Services tracks where I go, how often, and at what time. It uses this to suggest places or send location-based ads. Although useful, I worry about how much of my personal movement is being recorded.
