It's a app for memorize words which appear in TOEIC test.

To motivate users to use the app everyday, it includes a daily mission system. Users earn 100 points by completing daily missions, 30 points for finishing a vocabulary block, and 20 points for winning a match against another user. The main purpose of accumulating points is for ranking. In this app, rankings are determined by the total number of points a user has. In addition to rankings, there are also tiers (or divisions), which are adjusted weekly. Every week, the top 15 users in a tier are promoted to the next tier, while the bottom 10 are demoted to the previous one.

Before taking the BESTEP test, I read a few English articles and found it more difficult than ever. The main reason was that I had forgotten too many vocabulary words—even simple ones required me to rely on context to guess their meanings. So, I decided to go back to the way I studied vocabulary when preparing for the GSAT and started memorizing English words again. I opened the app I used to rely on, which was none other than Toast English.

Starting from that week, I spent 10 to 20 minutes each day completing daily missions and memorizing at least two vocabulary blocks. Since I didn't have Screen Time enabled on my iPhone, I’m not sure exactly how much time I spent on the app. But if I estimate about 15 minutes a day, that would be 10 × 7 minutes in a week. During that time, I advanced four tiers, so at the very least, I spent 10 × 7 × 4 minutes on it—that’s approximately 4.66 hours.

Ever since high school, I have been participating in competitive programming on and off, about once a week. The contests are all online, mainly on platforms such as Leetcode and AtCoder.

In most contests, I can usually only solve about half of the problems or less. It always feels like there's a barrier I can't quite get past. So, I decided to start building a solid foundation in algorithms. Also, since one of the courses I'm taking this semester requires writing technical documents (like READMEs), I decided to combine the two and treat it as extra practice by writing algorithm notes in Markdown.

I'm not sure if participating in these contests is bringing me any tangible benefits at the moment, but learning algorithms is definitely helping to make my thinking more flexible. Even though my understanding of algorithms is still quite basic, through this process of learning, I can genuinely feel the joy of making steady progress in a field I love.

Through the daily routine of memorizing vocabulary, I can feel my reading ability gradually returning to its previous level. It's also becoming easier to understand assignment prompts from other courses. Although there's still a gap between this and practical usage, I might need to do more practice with word substitution in the future.
