Hello! I’m Khevana Devashrayee, currently training in Early Childhood Education at Fanshawe College in London, Ontario. As a proud mom to a vibrant 4½‑year‑old son, I cherish every moment of watching him learn and grow an experience that inspires my journey as an educator.

Back in my home country, I earned a Bachelor of Education and taught high school math and science, where I developed strong skills in lesson planning, fostering curiosity, and building partnerships with students and families. Moving to Canada led me to shift my focus to early childhood because I believe that the early years are the foundation for a lifelong love of learning.

Through my ECE placements and studies, I've learned how powerful it is to create warm, inclusive, and play-based environments. I believe children learn best when trusted to explore, take healthy risks, and follow their own interests with thoughtful guidance from their educator.

This portfolio shares my journey so far from creating lesson plans and communicating with families to documenting learning and promoting meaningful play. It reflects my belief that children are capable, curious, and resilient. My goal is to support each child in becoming confident, independent, and enthusiastic learners.I am belive in one thing that what bring me here is my passion.I love my proffession.

I believe that when children feel safe, valued, and connected, they are able to grow socially, emotionally, and cognitively. My experiences in early childhood settings have shown me how powerful it is to create environments where children can explore freely, express their thoughts, and develop confidence in who they are.

As a blind future ECE and a mother, I carry a unique perspective into my work with children. I rely deeply on listening, observing emotional cues, and noticing the ways children communicate their needs and ideas. This helps me respond with intention and support each child in a meaningful, respectful way. Over time, I have learned that early childhood education is not just about teaching specific skills it is about nurturing curiosity, resilience, and a love for learning that children will carry into every stage of their lives.

I believe that curriculum should be inclusive and accessible, ensuring that every child regardless of ability, background, or learning style can participate, explore, and feel a sense of belonging.

This approach has helped me understand how thoughtful curriculum development supports the whole child. When experiences are purposeful and connected, children grow socially, emotionally, physically, and cognitively. They gain confidence, develop problem-solving skills, and engage more deeply with their environment.

Overall, I see curriculum development as an ongoing cycle of observing, reflecting, and responding. It requires curiosity, flexibility, and a genuine commitment to supporting children’s learning in a way that is meaningful, respectful, and developmentally appropriate.

When educators build trust and communicate openly with families, it helps create a sense of belonging for both the child and their family. Through my experiences, I have learned that listening to families, respecting their values, and including them in the decision-making process leads to better outcomes for children.

The artifacts I have included the Family Interview Assignment, the Family Permission Form, and the Anecdotal Record of Rayan each show how I work in partnership with families. As an educator, I support them by encouraging self-help skills, such as dressing themselves, organizing their belongings, and problem-solving when challenges arise. This routine not only prepares them for outdoor learning but also builds independence, confidence, and responsibility in a supportive daycare environment.

What does this photo tell us about your learning and ispiration from reading ?

This photo reminds me how important it is to help children become independent through daily routines. From my readings, I learned that self-help skills, like putting on winter clothes, are not just simple tasks but also ways for children to practice fine motor skills, problem-solving, and confidence. When I see the children trying to put on their snowsuits, I realize how capable they are when we give them time and encouragement. This connects to what I have read about play-based and hands-on learning, where children learn best by doing things themselves. I am inspired to see routines, like getting ready to go outside, not as something to rush through, but as valuable learning moments. As an educator, I now understand that transitions are a chance to build independence, confidence, and resilience in children.

Why is this important to your learning"?

This is important to my learning because it shows me how everyday routines can be powerful teaching moments. I learned that transitions, like getting ready to go outside, are not just about moving from one activity to another but also about helping children build independence and confidence. It reminds me that as an educator, I need to slow down, give children time, and see these moments as opportunities for growth. This learning helps me become more patient, supportive, and intentional in my practice.

Why do you want to share this photo?

I want to share this photo because it shows the importance of everyday routines in children’s learning. It captures how children practice independence and problem-solving while getting ready to go outside. I believe this photo highlights how small moments, like putting on snowsuits, can teach big skills such as confidence, responsibility, and resilience. Sharing this photo also shows my learning as an educator about how meaningful routines can be in child development.

How does this relate to your life the live of people in your community or both?

This photo relates to my life and the lives of people in my community because it shows children learning to be independent by putting on their own snowsuits. In my life, I have seen how doing small tasks by myself, like getting dressed or taking care of my things, helped me feel more confident and responsible. In the community, when children are encouraged to dress themselves and do other daily routines, they learn important skills like problem-solving, patience, and how to take care of themselves. Doing these tasks on their own helps children feel capable and proud of what they can do. This independence supports their overall growth, builds self-confidence, and prepares them to face challenges at school, at home, and in everyday life. Giving children time and support to do things for themselves helps them become responsible, confident, and ready for the future.

Photo voice 2 ECED 3040

Brief discription about this photo(what is happening here)

In this December 2024 Christmas photo, my son sits comfortably on a green chair, sporting a cheerful festive hat. His wide smile and sparkling eyes express his delight and the fun-filled spirit of the holidays, making this moment truly unforgettable."

what does this photo tell us about your learning and ispiration from the reading?why is this important?

This photo of my son during a Christmas celebration tells me a lot about joy, connection, and the importance of creating a positive environment for children. His big smile, playful hat, and relaxed posture show that he feels safe, happy, and fully engaged in the moment. From my readings about child development and early childhood education, I am reminded that children thrive when they feel a sense of belonging, when the environment is welcoming, and when educators or caregivers pay attention to their emotional well-being.This moment is particularly meaningful because, as a family from a different cultural background where Christmas is not traditionally celebrated, it shows how children can engage with and enjoy new experiences beyond their own culture. It highlights the importance of exposing children to diverse cultural practices and traditions in a respectful and joyful way. This is important because it reinforces the idea that learning is not just about academic skills it is about fostering emotional, social, and cultural growth. Seeing my son so happy reminds me that children need spaces where they feel seen, valued, and included, which is a key principle in creating inclusive and supportive learning environments. It inspires me to reflect on my own practice as an educator and consider how I can honor diversity, celebrate differences, and bring joy and a sense of belonging into every classroom interaction.

why do you want to share this photo?

I want to share this photo because it shows my son feeling very happy and comfortable. It reminds me of the kind of classroom I want to create as a teacher, where children feel safe, included, and joyful. Even though Christmas is not part of our culture, my son enjoyed the celebration, which shows how children can learn and have fun with new experiences. This photo helps me think about how important it is to care for children’s feelings, respect different cultures, and make every child feel like they belong.

how does this photo relate to your life ,the lives of people in your community ,or both?

This photo relates to my life because it shows a special moment of happiness and belonging for my son, which is very important to me as a parent and future educator. It also connects to the lives of people in my community, especially families like ours who come from different cultural backgrounds. Even though we don’t usually celebrate Christmas, this photo shows how children and families can enjoy and learn from new cultural experiences.

Photo voice 3 ECED 3040

Brief description of photo (what is happening here?)

This photo was taken in October 2024 at my son’s school. In the picture, my son is standing with his friend and their teacher. They are proudly holding a decorated pumpkin with fun eyes and a big smile. It was taken during a classroom activity where children decorated pumpkins together as part of a seasonal event. The teacher created a warm and joyful atmosphere, and the children were very excited to show their work. Everyone is smiling and engaged, which shows the positive bond between the teacher and the children.

What does this photo tell us about your learning and inspirations from the readings?
Why is this important to your learning?

When I look at this picture, I connect it to the lesson on Ethical Leadership: Image of the Educator. One of the key ideas from this week’s content is that educators are not just teachers they are ethical leaders who model values, attitudes, and behaviors for children every day. Ethical leadership is about building trusting relationships, showing respect, fairness, and care, and creating inclusive environments where children feel safe and valued. In this photo, the teacher is not just instructing; she is building a sense of belonging and community. Her warm smile and the way she is kneeling down to the children’s level reflect respect and inclusion. It shows how educators can lead through positive interactions rather than authority. This photo is important to my learning because it reminds me that ethical leadership happens in everyday moments, not just in big decisions. As someone training to be an educator, I see how the teacher’s behavior and attitude influence how children feel in the classroom. By creating a fun and respectful learning space, she is setting an example of how educators can lead ethically. This connects to the lesson where we discussed that the “image of the educator” is shaped through daily practices and how we position ourselves with children, families, and colleagues.

Why do you want to share this photo?

I wanted to share this photo because it captures a real-life example of what we are learning in class. It shows the teacher as a role model who is engaged, approachable, and supportive. She is demonstrating leadership not by controlling, but by connecting. This inspires me to reflect on the kind of educator I want to become someone who leads with kindness, builds trusting relationships, and creates spaces where children feel seen and heard.

How does this relate to your life, the lives of people in your community, or both?

This photo relates to both my personal life and my community. As a parent, I value teachers who lead with care and ethics, because I see how it impacts my own child’s growth. As a future educator, I want to bring the same qualities into my classroom. In my community, teachers play an important role in shaping children’s values and supporting families. This moment shows how ethical leadership creates positive learning experiences for everyone involved children, families, and educators.
