We are visiting the Smithsonian, National Museum of Natural History. First exhibit is Last American Dinosaurs. Dinosaurs are reptiles that differ in size and shape. We are also visiting the Partners in Evolution: butterflies.

Pedro -
Dinosaurs. What are they? Well, Paleontologists say they're generally a specific group of reptiles. They were alive 66-68 million years ago, and the closest ancestors we have to them today are birds. We learn about these dinosaurs with fossils, or traces of ancient life. This includes feces, bones, and tracks. Although some dinosaurs are very frightening, with big teeth and large bodies, there were more herbivores in the era than carnivores. If you haven't seen a dinosaur before, you're missing out.
Tyler N -
Butterflies are one of the bigger insects. They also have the more attractive appeants to themselves. The Chinese Yellow Shallow tail has a more yellow took to itself and located in Asia. The Blue-banded Shallow tail is located in Africa and so is the Emperor Shallow tail. Most of the butterflies are located in Africa and Asia. All Butterflies have different looks, sizes and technices. The
Sheyla per 3- what I learned about mammal hall Africa 2 (high). Is that all the mammal eat meat. Also that they sometime fight and some of them have family. Half of them live in the water and they eat fish.

Mammals are types of animals that breathe air like humans. Mammals come in all different shapes and sizes. fossils of mammals have been found that date back to million of years ago.

Jaylon Brown Period 2. Not only do they differ in shapes and sizes but they also use different ways to travel, hunt and live. For example predators live by hunting and eating other animals, but scavengers that can't kill their prey wait for something die and eat it or eat the remains of someone else's food

Leanne Calvillo Period 3 -
The oldest fossils date back to 600 million years ago. Fossils that date back to this time are considered to be part of the Paleozoic Era. Fossils of living things with hard shells and skeletons were the first discovered. Scientists believe that these hard-shelled animals evolved from simpler less complex creatures. Through fossils we have learned many things about evolving from dinosaurs. They show us about the movement, structure, diets, lives, etc. of the dinosaurs.

Edmanuel Rodriguez Period 4-
Coral reefs are complex and fragile ecosystems .Healthy coral contains thousands of fish and invertebrate species found nowhere else on earth .The ocean remains one of the least explored and understood environment on the plant and a frontier for discoveries that could provide important benefits. Reefs are beautiful sea life they contain many types of fish and organisms

We also examined the Sant Ocean Hall: Coral Reefs. And saw the Mammal Hall:South America.

Nanu Marin.Butterflies and moths weren't always at such a diversity. At one point of time there was only five different species of moths and no trace of a butterfly. Butterflies aren't the only ones that evolved along with plants. Bees and bats did too. Bees use the plants to eat the nectar, brush off access pollen and attract female mates to repopulate. Bats use it to eat the nectar and attract mates. Without the animals, the plants would die due to no transfer of pollen. Meow
Christa Goodman- I learned that the reef-building corals grow by depositing story structures of calcium carbonate ( limestone ). The coral reef organisms have envolved unique adaptions to share limited resources and spaces. The species share or divide up the living space. For example, the Hawkfishes and Blennies both perch on the same reef. Some also fiercly guard a small territory. Other animals live in the same place, but are active at different times.
Joshua Argueza-I learned that the nearly 65 years ago that rain forests covered most of South America.Today the Amazonian Rain forest survives as the world's largest tropical rain forest.A continuous canopy of ever green trees shades the forest floor.

The Museum we are exploring is the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History. The first exhibit
is the Last American Dinosaurs. This exhibit helps us discover and learn about all the types of dinosaurs and their lives.

Bradyn-
How do we study dinosaurs? We look at fossils. Fossils help us to discover a lot about how they lived, moved, and even how they may have ate. What are dinosaurs? Dinosaurs are a species who were on earth for a very large amount of time. Dinosaurs lived on earth for roughly around 66-68 million years according to paleontologist. Dinosaurs have lived on earth much longer then humans have. The tyrannosaurus ate meat and bone and was also around 40 feet tall.
Valerie Aguirre p.3
what i have learned do to the mammals of the ocean that almost all the sea creatures travel in packs and they also have a security system so if a predator comes for example sardines will make a wall to keep at least some of the fish wont be eaten.
Skye Vantine-p.5
Deep ocean what i learned is that animals in deep water must catch what little food falls from above or catch eachother. The deep ocean is Earth's biggest habitat. There is much never been seen.Megamouth,a huge shark was accidentally captured in 1976.The deep ocean is really hard to explore.

Michelle Medina p. 6
Partners in evolution butterflies 2 had a ton of amazing butterflies from ones that came from Asia, Arizona, New York and more. The butterfly that caught my eye was the Chinese Yellow Shallowtail from Asia. Most of the exhibits were in cages wrapped around in wire. Every single butterfly had so much information from where they came from and to age. By far this was my favorite part of both museums. It seems like the National History Museum had many places to choose from the mammal exibit, insects, underwater dinsoaurs, human culture, and more. Many butterflies lived up to 100 years and maybe more. Overall all the many different things the museum had to offer were all amazing.

today we have explored the Last American Dinosaur Exhibit. In this exhibit I learned that humans have only been around for a sliver of a time compared to the dinosaurs and everything else. I also learned that to become a fossil you need a variety of factors, one of these being luck. Once something becomes fossilized its up to the paleontologists to dig them up

Report- Esmeralda Nolasco
Today I explored the Insect Zoo at The Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History. I am viewing the Diplopoda, Crustaced, Insecta, Chilopoda, and Arachnida. In class Diplopoda they are millipedes are athropods with many legs, 2 pairs on most body segments, they have 1 pair of antennae. The Crustaced athropods with 10 or more legs in pairs, and have 2 pairs of antennae. For the Insecta class they are athropods with 6 legs n pair, usually has 1 to 2 pairs of wings. Also, the Chilopoda Class has a wormlike, flattened body with many segments, has 1 pair of antennae. Lastly, the Arachnida such as spiders, and scorpions with 8 legs in 4 pairs, they have no antennae, usually has 1 to 2 body regions. Today I went to the Smithsonian Museum and learned about all the different classes of insects and what they look like .

Joseph allen: I am doing my part on the korean weddings.

The museum of national history
has many amazing history of
mammals and many other sorts.
There is many facts of mammals in the mammal hall. One fact about mammal that is useful is that , as mammals adaptedto a changing world , a wondurous diversity of shapes , sizes , and behavior evoled. Many of mammals evoled such as chimps and even lions. In
Africa waterholes thirst has driven all these mammals to the same muddy waterhole.all mammals are involving till this day in order to live in this planet.

Report- Alexis Bryant;
I am observing the Mammal Hall Africa 2. There are many different species of animals that live in the savanna in Africa. They include giraffes, hippos, wild hogs, moose, monkeys, antelopes, coyotes, lions, tigers, cougars, cheetahs, and zebras. All the animals get major thirst, living in a dry land, so in order to stay cool, they all go to the same waterhole. when it gets super dry, survival for the many species is critical. In order for species such as hippos to keep cool, they must stay in or near water all day long.

Report-Angel Sanchez
I observed the mammal hall south america north america. There are many diffrent species. The species that i have observed for south america were possums, bats kangaroos, and koalas.I read that there is a species of possums that can glide/fly. I also visited the north america mammal hall also. it had bobcats, moose, snowhares, and also artic fox. All of these mammals from the north america hall all have special adaptations that they had made and special features they use.

Report- Caitlyn Shank
The deep ocean is a home to many mammals and organisms big and small. While exploring the museum I discovered that humans have been discovering new mammals for a long time. For example scientists caught a huge shark in 1976 . However scientists are still discovering new organisms to this day. Recently scientists have discovered new species of squid and jellyfish. Humans can discover new species, but we can also do a lot of damage to some at the same time. As an example, salamon is a very good source for humans but we have harmed them so much there are becoming less and less of them. Coral reefs are home to many fish in the ocean. They can be harmed naturally because they are so fragile, therefore, people dont need to be contributing to their harm and dustrucion.

Conclusion:
The Smithsonian Muse was interesting because of these reasons. The deep sea is full of many animals that are very important to humans, that being the reason, we should try our best to keep it safe keep it safe.

Report: Calista Hahs per.6-
Today I explored the geology, gems, and minerals exhibit. This is a good exhibit to look at if you want to know how the world was formed and what it's made of. I learned that rubies gain their red color from light that interacts with it while it grows. Saphires are made of all colors except for red.

The Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History informs you about many historical facts from present and past tense and they also have a pretty legit dinosaur museum.

Jalen - Dinosaurs are a were on this earth for a very long time before the when extinct. One of the most unique kind of dinosaurs were the triceratops. They lived from 65 to 70 million years ago.The triceratops skull was so big that it was carried into the museum by a forklift.

Gabby- The Egyptians had a very interesting culture. Once a person died (depending if the person was Rich or Royalty) the person would be wrapped up in the most expensive kind of linen and Stucco. They practiced this so that the body would still be preserved, however they noticed by taking out the organs including the brain the body would last longer. The Tombs would be designed depending on how the dead lived, their personalities and many other factors. If they were Rich or royal when they passes all their slaves would be killed and buries with them. The female and male body have a lot of differences other then one having a vagina or penis. The skulls are different and so is the pelvis. The woman's pelvis is more oval so that the vagina could open up while delivering a baby when a mans pelvis is more circular .

Cassandra- Bones are whitish tissues making up the skeleton in human and other vertebrates. In a average human body there is a total of 206 bones but when we were all born we use to have a total of 300. As growing up during our life time we lose the amount of bones because the bones starting fusing together. Each specific bone in your body have a special "role" for our body like protecting organs or even being a main structure in the body. If any damage is done to any bone it can cause extreme pain.

Starr smith per5 (the last american dinosaurs1)
I found out that the Tyrannosaurus rex was about 40 feet tall which is about 12.3m. It weighed up to 15,000 pounds. They ate only meat and bones. They were alive about 66 to 68 million years ago. Tyrannosauruses only went after live prey for food they did not dare touch already dead things. The Tyrannosaurus is also called a T rex. Almost all T rexes were killed by valcanoes or other animals. the Tyrannosaurus was one of the biggest dino

Then there are bears who teach there young to survive early. Most of the habitats of these animals have been changed or altered although all of it has been explored by man.

Jamie Garcia, per:4-
The section I observed was the Fossil Hall. The exhibit had many many fossils and information about different types of dinosaurs and also the underwater world before the dinosaurs. By observing this hall I learned that the Triceratops have matching leg bones. Also the Hadroaurian Headwear were the skulls of the Duckbills'. They were adorned by strange crests. I really didnt find anything about the T-rex becouse its really hard to zoom in but thats okay I guess.

Jose. I am observing the Santa ocean hall: coral reef. their are many species that live together like a community. Aaliyah. Matching leg bones ; scientist can easily manipulate this scale model to discover how joints worked and how the animal moved .not all fossils are found together so the missing parts are then made to complete the skeleton. Jose. their are many interesting facts on the coral reef. the corral reef contains the one of the most extrodinary species of fish. one of the species are long nose Hawk fish, yellow angel fish, blue damselfish, and many more. The corral reef is made from limestone and calcium carbonhydrates. the corral reef takes about 18 months to form. A healthy reef is has one of the most exotic fishes. the corral reef also creates it structures by depositing things it don't need. I picked this station because i really enjoy the ocean.
Desiree DeGraw period 5:
Today I am observing the process of how mummies are preserved.

Kendra Parker, period 6;
While looking around the National Museum Internet Tour, I decided to take interest in the Mammal Exhibits. I observed how they all thrived in their lands they call home- and what helps them survive there.

This is our group Alberto B, Lexi P, Timmothy M, and Haley tejeda,Jesse Salceda. What we reasearched was Mammals, the ocean, the dinosours, and geology gems and minerals. We got the information from the museum located in Washington Dc.

Today I learned about mammals and Africa. As mammals adapted to a changing world, a wondrous diversity of shapes, sizes, and behaviors evolved. Mammals have hair, milk, and special ear bones. In Africa both predators and prey struggle to survive during Africa's alternating seasons of rain and drought. In the end of a long, hard dry season. The scent of rain is in the air. Animals listen to the rumble of thunder. Lastly, I learned the bigger prey can't really hide, so they have long legs and speed.

Report-Kaileigh Jamerson
The Sant Ocean Hall is just a sunlit surface to the darkest depths and from the smallest microorganisms to the biggest animals even known .It contains reefs and different types coral like bamboo, and fish. Throughout the hall are exhibits and molecules that provide rich educational experiences.

Report- Lexi Powell
The area of the museum I observed is the special Ancient Egypt exhibit. The thing that i found most interesting was the mummification process. First, the Ancient Egyptians removed the brain and organs (except for the heart) and dried them, then stored them in canopic jars. Second, they would dry the body by filling the body with packets of natron, as well as wash the skin and add perfumes and oils. Thirdly, they would wrap the body in linen bandages. Fourthly, they would add magic charms, known as amulets to the mummy's wraps to bring the body good luck, ect. Lastly, at the end of this 70 day ritual, they place the mummy in the coffin ready for burial.

Timmy McKinney: I observed the last dinosuars in America exhibit on the second floor. I found out triceratops roamed the Earth million of years ago, (60-66 Million to be exact.) Triceratops look spoopy but, they were actually Herbivores! Tyrannasaurus' also roamed the earth millions of years ago. Their teeth pierced through meat and bones. Overall, I think dinosuars have a very strong past, but are very scary!

Haley Tejeda:I observed the Geology Gems, And minerals on the second floor.I observed on how some crystals dissolve. One main thing that makes it destroy is water, what ever it makes it can destroy. Also under certain temperature and chemical condition minerals can grow and get longer from minerals that are located in water. An look and discovery fact is 2 green elbaite crystal can naturally elched, then you can a pink crystal underneath. The steps on how it grows is the solution that can change composition, then they can supply each other side to side, and finally then can stop growing by dissolving then start to grow again. An Arkansas quartz is a 3 huge slab quartz. They are located at the museum(1940) that is located near Hot Springs,Arkansas. Its a clear colored quartz, can be as big as 400kg(800lbs). In the mountains 225 milllion years ago made cracks in the rock. These are some facts about gems, and minerals, and rocks I learned about. Also lets you know how they are dissolved and created by.

They all have a large amount of weight from what I see. They are also known to be very tall. The Triceratops can start anywhere from 6 foot 8. They may also weigh starting from 13,000 up to 22,000 pounds. They also didn't eat other animals or meat so they ate plants.
So today i basically looked at dinosaur facts and fossils. I also seen a few dinosaurs that look similar to animals I see today.
I learned interesting things about these dinosaurs and a little on how they lived.
Taylor Davis, I did a the Special Exhibits:Korea 1.Looking into this exhibit i found a lot of things that i didn't know about Korean culture. They had differences on the way they wrote ,and different aspects too.
Korean ceramics were quite plain to the eye,but you can tell they took along time to make. They had a different type of calligraphy that I saw on one paragraph. They wrote with special brushes and had ink stones. They had this thing called Hangeul that was written by a scholar back in the day. Hangeul was a major achievement in Korean scholarship.
The ocean is essential to all lif
In conclusion Koreans had a lot to be proud about.

I am observing the mammal hall in the Smithsonian National Museum. I have found information that states that mammals are always adapting to climate and other things around them. Mammals also have special earbones that which amplify sounds around them. This shows that certain variations help individuals survive in their habitats. another interesting fact that I learned was that in order for animals to stay warm in the winter they store blubber in their bodies and grow thick fur. The mammal hall gives great information that is useful to know.
REPORT - JEANNETE LOHNES PER#3
In the Sant Ocean Hall : Ocean Diversity section of the museum , there is what you would guess sharks , fish , plants, currents , but also things you wouldn't expect to be there are in fact there as well!such as fossils and history of extinct animals. There is a whole section dedicated to ocean fossils contained with things such as eel fossils , plant fossils rocks and more ! Earths earliest life is filled with fossils from all in the ocean, big changes happen through small steps over geologic time , they can trace the path of evolution through earth's rocks and fossils. Oceans food web depends o plankton and jelly fish just so happen to be the butterflies of the sea , as you can see there are a lot of prized possession's and ancient information , the Ocean diversity section in the Smithsonian Museum is something you'd learn a lot from in a fundamental way ! something you should consider looking into .

Report: Kaylie Bissett Per. 4
Today I examined the start of the human evolution in the Human Origins : Social life exhibit. The human race did not start off into the lives we had today. We are actually part of the ape family, which we have evolved from many centuries ago. We didn't have any technology or common sense like we have today, instead we had primal instincts from our ancestors. Back then we carved wooden sticks and rocks to make tools for every day living and had our own communication through expressions. Finally, we migrated place to place in our communities or organizations like today in our diverse society. My observation on this matter should help many people understand how our race came to be from human evolution.

Report-Angelina Gonzales(5th)
I observed the African Voices exhibit. In that exhibit African Voices tells about Africans from around the continent. In 1994 South Africans voted in their first multicultural democratic elections. Also something I read was that thousands of africans were killed and jailed for asserting their human rights. Another part of the exhibit mentioned the animals. The number of black rhinos has plummeted from 100,000 in 1960, to 2,400 today. There was a group of people called the Kongo people, a little fact about them is Kongo people who adopted christianity applied key terms from the local religion.

Report- Aimee Eversole Per 6
I am observing the sant ocean hall Artic Ocean. I have been finding out information about the species and the climate changes in this envierment. One of the species i have been getting information on is the common white polar bear i have learned that polar bears have a long haunted for seals they are one of their favorite meals. Another species is the walrus these big falby creatures blubber is actually to keep these creatures warm. One more of the creatures i have been learning about is a creature called a Artic Tern these birds are the longest migration bird in the world they migrate pole to pole every year . The climate has been changing to warm making polar ice caps falling into the ocean mealting tons of ice briges

Today i observed the Dinosaur exhibit. I observed this in the Smithsonian National museum, i got to read about different types of Dinosaurs.
One of the main dinosaurs i observed was the Triceratop, this dinosaur lived about 66 million years ago. It only ate plants, its length was 30 feet and it weighed 13,000 to 22,000 pounds.
The next dinosaur i observed was the Tyrannosaurus , it was about 66 million-68 million years ago that it was alive. This dinosaur only ate bone and meat, it weighed 15,500 pounds and its length was 40 feet long.
The nest dinosaur i learned about was the dodo birds, or known as lost birds. There were 9 species of these birds. The most of them lived in New Zealand. These birds were highly hunted, this is what killed them.
I learned many things by searching through this museum. It taught me a lot of interesting facts about dinosaurs that lived over millions of years ago.

While observing Human Origins, i noticed that we have evolved greatly over time. Humans have developed to love, care, and have conscious.
The main human species were Homo Sapiens. There was a particular evolving human that was named Lucy, her civilization lasted for more than 900,000 years. Humans have changed body shapes and sizes over time. We all have used tools for various things. By 4 million years, humans were mostly bipedal. By 1.9 million years we were fully bipedal. The male, Homo Hiedelbergensis lived in a social group that hunted large animals and shared food with each other. Most of our time of social life has fully empowered since the beginning of over 130,000 years ago.
This section was interesting in the aspect of showing evolution. It shows what we looked like long ago and what we were like.

Mammals of the far north. They face long freezing winters, how do they do it? Today I observed the Mammal Hall: Northern America exhibit. I researched the animals that it showed in the exhibit. I studied on how they survive in the freezing snow. Most animals bodies have evolved, like their feet so they could dig in the snow or their fur so they could camouflage. An example of a mammal that lives in North America is the snowshoe hare, they have evolved feet that help them prevent from sinking into the snow when it hops and walks. Their feet also have fur on their soles to protect them from freezing temperature. They also camouflage, their fur turns white during the winter and brown during the summer. Another animal is the Artic Fox, It survives the cold with its deep thick white hair. There are many more animals that live in North America but these are just a few examples and how they adapted to the cold.

I am visiting Australia! Australia does not have many large predatory animals. Some animals that call Australia their habitat are foxes, koalas, flying squirrels, and bats.
Australia has more than 150 species of marsupials, including kangaroos, wallabies, wombats, and much more! Red foxes are common in Australia! They live about 2-4 years and their diet is omnivores. This fascinating continent is the only continent to still have three of the major groups of mammals; monootremes, marsupials, and placetals. It also doesnt have native hoofed animals.
Overall, Australia is a very interesting continent. It is full of beautiful animals!
