Sometimes, i forget that you're older than me. But then again not really, because often you remind me how smart and wise you are. "With age comes wisdom" daw. (chz)

Not just in acads and how hard you work, but also how passionate you are in the things you love. How ambitious you are and how much you want to improve yourself. (sobrang goals btw) How compassionate you can be because you don't pick people that you'd be kind to. How creative you are because you can easily notice what's missing and what looks good. How I know you try to be a good friend to everyone, without neglecting your bestest friends who you'd do almost anything for. Or how you manage to light up a room with the happiness or in general just the positivity you have.

Hi Jiggy,

I'm told it's your birthday. That's cool.

A lot of the stuff on here consists of exhortations to "keep being you," to keep being and doing the things that you already do and are, because you're damn good. And on the one hand, I echo them; you're damn awesome (as a writer and, as I saw but once, as a director), and it'd be a shame if you stopped giving of yourself to the world. I mean it--you're too good to stop writing and you're too good to stop caring. (Plus, all the shit designs on this planet won't fix themselves, eh?)

But on the other hand, I suppose I will be a hipster and exhort you to also keep trying the other stuff, to keep trying new things and taking weird chances and making attempts. As great a writer as you were in class, the essay I'll always remember from you isn't any of the A-level stuff, but the memoir, which was a weird-ass ambitious experiment if I ever saw one. It was a weighty, difficult subject, for which you attempted a weighty, difficult essay, and while it wasn't perfect and maybe didn't yet reach the A-version of itself in my class, it was easily the best thing I saw out of you all semester. I say "best" not in terms of grades or arbitrary standards of perfection, because screw perfection, but in terms of worthy challenges and making a mark and trying when it would be easier to coast. Your skill was unquestionable, but what was more memorable was what you did and what you attempted and what you essayed (heh). What's memorable is the attempt.

Perfection, as they say, is one thing, but make sure you keep dreaming, too. Don't beat yourself up over mistakes, but also don't settle and stay hungry. Strive for better while also being happy with who you are right now. And if all this sounds weirdly paradoxical, well, welcome to growing up, my friend. Enjoy the ride.
