I grew up in different parts of that city but I lived for two years in Vina del mar (the coast) just before coming to the United States. I can not avoid crying every time I remember my country and all that Chile means to me. When I think of the delicious and fresh Southern food, remember its landscapes and the climate, it's like feeling Chile call to me.  The social culture is very kind and they love foreigners; everyone is so welcoming there.
I do not want to say that my culture is perfect because it's not, but I am very grateful to have been born there and to have been part of it.
I come from a culture in which women are strong in every respect: we can cook delicious things for hours, do fieldwork without any problem and in general we are able to do the same jobs that a man can do and that is something that characterizes us as Chilean women. In general we are passionate about our land. We celebrate the 18th of September dancing the "Cueca" and "Cumbia"
(but we celebrate the whole month). In September the streets fill with Chilean music and people selling Chilean "empanadas" and "mote con huesillo" (a Chilean drink of a mixture of caramel juice, with "mote" (wheat) and dehydrated peaches, called "huesillos"). Family life in Chile is very close - we try to have lunch or dinner together every Sunday. We also try to celebrate every Holiday together (even if the house is small), and we try to make our friends part of our family.
