During this Chapter Jack finds inner tyrant. He finds the conch and feels that he should now be the leader and Ralph should step down. However, most of the boys disagreed with Jack though and still wanted him in power. Jack is frustrated so he decides to take his boys to another part of the island and make his own group. When he makes his own group him and his new people go on a wild hunt. This shows how he completely has turned completely savage. In chapter 7 it first starts with the thought of killing a littlun, now he has made a new group which is even more savage. He is able to make this group because he has confirmation that the beast is real which he uses t channel his groups fear into obedience to him.

Towards the end of chapter 9, Simon sees the dead parachuter, so he heads towards Ralph's fire to tell the others. Meanwhile Jack is hosting a feast of roasted pig, then when they are done eating, they all dance in tribal circles until Simon gets there, when in all the commotion, the boys think he is the Beastie, so they beat him to death. then his mangled corpse floated to sea. This action by the boys shows the complete loss of humanity and sanity left in the group.

In this chapter Simon can be seen as a christ figure. Throughout the entire book Simon has been the mediator and hasn't had much controversial opinion. He also has a lot of respect for the environment around him, like the clearing in the woods where he finds his peace. During the end of chapter 8 when he discovers the parachuter he also finds the "Lord of the Flies" . This is when he Hallucinates about the pig that the Jack's band speared, and it "talks" to him and says it will never escape him. This symbolizes the fear that resides in everybody that will always be in them and controlling them.

During this chapter Jack turns truly savage. He even goes as far as tormented the littluns. He sits on his thrown in the castle and demand the littluns to do stuff for him. Otherwise, they might end up being beaten like Wilfred. This shows a complete change in power on the Island, and also shows how Jack has truly started using fear as a motive for ruling his people. He has gone so insane that he persuades the littluns to believing that the shadowing figure coming out of the forest is the beastie. When in fact it is not the beastie it is Simon. Everyone is so overpowered with savagery and excitement that they don't even realize that they have killed on of their own, Simon.

Piggy is significant in this chapter because he is the only one who is stubborn enough to not have changed as much as the others. Even though he did partake in the in the killing of Simon he felt guilty after it unlike Ralph.
