Cellular Respiration is a reaction that happens within animals and plants to covert biochemical energy from nutrients into ATP and produce water. In this experiment, two mice were placed into bio chambers. First, the 02 levels in the bio chambers were measured for 10 minutes when the mice had not been fed any food. Then, one mouse was given a small amount of food, and one mouse was given a large amount of food. The 02 levels were measured once again for 10 minutes. The purpose of this experiment was to see how amount of food consumed effects the rate of respiration in the mice. Scientists will care about this data because they will learn how amount of food effects CR in mice.

The purpose of this experiment was to measure the amount of oxygen used in a 10 minute time period and observe if the amount of food given to the mouse changes the amount of oxygen used.
My group and I saw that the mice given food respire faster because they were digesting the food during their time in the chamber.
The trends that I observed by the graphs were that the oxygen went down steadily unless there was a source of error in the data, such as a probe being more sensitive than another.
Our hypothesis was If a mouse is given no food then the rate of cellular respiration will be lower than a mouse given food.
If a mouse is given a large amount of food, it's cellular respiration rate will be higher than a mouse given a small amount of food. Our data supported our hypothesis, other than a few sources of error.
First off, the reason the oxygen levels decreased for all trials is because cellular respiration uses up oxygen. The cellular respiration formula is Glucose + Oxygen ----> Carbon Dioxide + Water + ATP. (http://study.com/academy/lesson/what-is-the-chemical-equation-for-cellular-respiration.html) This is why the oxygen levels decrease in the bio chambers. The mice that were fed used more 02 than the mice not given food. This means that the mice given food had a higher rate of cellular respiration because they received glucose from the food they ate. More CR occurred in order to turn that glucose and oxygen into co2, water, and ATP. This is why more oxygen was respired by the mice given Food. The Mouse that was given a larger amount of food (1 full pellet) respired more oxygen than the mouse given a small amount of food (one half of a pellet) because the mouse given the larger amount gained more glucose from his food because it was larger. The more glucose, higher the rate of CR. This is why the Mouse given a larger amount of food used more 02 and had a higher rate of CR.

Possible Sources of Error:
-One of our probes was a little more sensitive than the other.
-One mouse became sick after eating and did not move around much.
-There were not repeated trials.

Another experiment that could be conducted related to this one would be to test how Cellular Respiration of a Mouse is effected in the presence of a Predator.

In this experiment we tested the effect the amount of food given to a mouse has on the cellular respiration rate (measured by measuring oxygen respired). We had two different mice and gave them different amounts of food. At the beginning, Mouse 1 and Mouse 2 were given no food and had similar respiration rates. Later we gave mouse 1 a large amount of food and mouse 2 a small amount. The one with a large amount of food had a higher rate of CR while the one with a small amount had less than the test with no food. We believe this is because mouse 2 seemed stressed and sick. All in all, the mice given food had higher CR rates than mice given no food, and the mouse given a large amount of food had the highest rate of CR of all.
