While ppts. gave consent to be in a study, it wasn't the study that Milgram was actually putting them in; however, if the aim was explained, the experiment would have given different results.
Right To Withdraw? Ppts were told at the beginning that they had the right to withdraw; however it wasn't respected as the prompts didn't allow them to leave (although, 35% utilised this right).
Confidentiality? All names were kept confidential, although other details were not (such as the place, their job, their age etc.)
Protection of ppts? The ppts were not protected: they were forced to "electrocute" someone. This caused many of the ppts stress, and this was seen both physically and psychologically; some ppts had extreme physical reactions and had seizures.
Debrief? Ppts were debriefed immediately after the study and were seen again a year later, and although most were happy to have done the study, 16% were not.
