Ana means “graceful”, but I’m far from making justice to that. The origin of Simas is unknown. Some say it has English origin, others argue it is Flemish. Apparently, somewhere over time someone foreigner came to the Azores and decide to have kids. Most Portuguese “Simas” come either from Faial or Pico islands.

In what concern other names, we have a lot of names of places like Costa (coast), animals Coelho (rabbit), some sort of change of the name of the father, such as “Fernando” that became “Fernades”, or even the use of the name of the mother when the father was unknown, “Conceição”
