Just like how Jackie Robinson overcomes the talk he had with the manager he was strong and bold of what he did. Jackie R. didn't know how to swim but he checked the Ice and made sure It was OK for the Kids and that's what he did to overcome that. I think It also means "facing ". If Jackie Robinson tries his best It's kinda like pretending to be in a baseball field. He grabbed the baseball bat and hand glove just like getting the shovel and and the Stick. He focused on baseball and he focus on not falling and stilled checked so the Kids won't fall in there.
