Like a bildungsroman, this vignette shows how Esperanza is maturing from seeing her friend’s current lifestyle.

Cisneros is saying that rich people forget about the poor people because they do things to better benefit themselves, not caring how it affects the poor. Esperanza will not do this, though she wants to live in a better community she will still use her money to help the poor. The connection in our lists was Desire because Esperanza desires a good life, but will remember who she is.
