Are higher or lower taxes good?

With higher taxes:

-The advantage of higher taxes are is more money for education, social security, infrastructure, etc. Higher taxes also means you'll claim more deductions and exemptions.
-Disadvantages of higher taxes is it could lead to businesses increasing their prices in order to pay taxes and also have a decent income. Even then, if they can't pay their taxes, this leads to the businesses closing down, which also leads to underemployment. Also, some people will not be able to live on their incomes, leading to more poverty and leaving them in poverty.

With lower taxes:

-Lowering taxes can make buyers be able to pay less for products due to a lowering of the sales tax, they will be encouraged to spend more money. Also, it would encourage workers to work harder, and so increase productivity.
-The disadvantage of lower taxes are that cutting taxes can also lead to the danger of increasing inequality because a lot of government spending is targeted to lower income groups.

Our solution:
Whichever way we choose, there is going to be repercussions. In general, the best solution would be to lower the taxes a small amount less.

Pamphlet:
https://docs.google.com/drawings/d/1xf9Nm7hxRdf9seuXLoMXe7jDWF1UQ7zIF18OWFuCNFc/edit?usp=sharing

How can the Federal Budget be trimmed?

The United States federal budget consists of the spending and revenues of the U.S. federal government. It is the financial representation of the priorities of the government. The government primarily spends on healthcare, retirement, and defense programs. The Congressional Budget Office provides extensive analysis of the budget and its economic effects. It has reported that the U.S. is facing a series of long-term financial challenges.

Somethings that can be reduced or cut:
-Reduce crop insurance, crop insurance was created during the Great Depression to help out farmers financially. Now it goes over what farmers can afford on their own.

-Get rid of unused or underused government buildings. Currently, the government owns over 14,000 buildings that been labeled under utilized.

-Military spends should be cut back. currently, our governments spends an excess amount of money on the military.

Pamphlet:
https://docs.google.com/drawings/d/1mYcfTxGKhBkr0RmmFGxNPgCAqZvSkF4C51JTryOSaB8/edit?usp=sharing

Should the IRS be abolished?

First of all, what is the IRS?
The IRS stands for the Internal Revenue Service. They are the nation's tax collection, so it collects income tax and oversees the collection of federal income taxes.

Next, the reason people want to abolish the IRS is because of its vast inefficiency and all the problems it brings. For example, according to this article, the IRS admitted that over 700,000 individuals had their personal tax information hacked from the IRS computers. Also, some politicians have proposed other, simpler, tax system reform that if implemented, will not need of the IRS.

Our solution:
The IRS was established in 1862, so in our opinion, the IRS was created in simpler times, but now it's time for a change. If other politicians have better, and simpler, ideas that will make take collection more efficient; we should go for it. That doesn't mean that we should abolish the IRS altogether, but find an alternative method for collecting taxes and 'redesign' the IRS

Pamphlet: https://docs.google.com/drawings/d/1GnxRkMyN-X7RMa47TffE233EjxJa4jM3ZAG2gnb7-SY/edit

Should the US continue to fund Social Security?

What is Social Security?
Social Security comes with benefits that include retirement income, disability income, Medicare and Medicaid, and death and survivorship benefits. Social Security is one of the largest government programs in the world, paying out hundreds of billions of dollars per year.

Our answer:
Yes, the US should continue to fund Social Security. If Social Security was dismantled to start with people 65 and older will be majorly affected considering most of their income comes over Social Security.

https://docs.google.com/drawings/d/1g_4h89X4t-iU9syGmzRohaoBN5TSFy8F4_R7uwXkEpI/edit?usp=sharing

Why are unemployment numbers inaccurate in the Press? Should they be accurate?

The unemployment rate in the U.S. can be quite misleading; the reason is a little bit confusing also. Sometimes, unemployed people could be working, but they don't disclose it. Instead, they just claim the benefits. I do feel like it is important for the numbers to be accurate or at least within a 5% interval. The importance of making sure the percentage is accurate, is to allow the citizens to determine whether or not the economy is weak.

Our solution:
While it is almost impossible to calculate the EXACT percentage of the unemployed, we should manage them more. We can do this by making sure that every employee is disclosed.

https://docs.google.com/drawings/d/1vdN5GQraHcK3NPr19Em3jpKrUL6fQNcS-al3JrXIm4Q/edit

What are some solutions to fixing unemployment?

One solution to fixing unemployment is to teach students practical skills that can prepare them to become self employed or get a paid job.

Another solution is government subsidies. This is when a firm can receive subsidies when they hire someone who was long time unemployed.

A final solution is to have stricter benefit requirements. When someone who is unemployed chooses to not look for or even get a job then their benefits would be at risk.

https://docs.google.com/drawings/d/16lb_GvoVAM7ZUfyBIZZUwEjZqcyjocFOi8A6Cn3asb4/edit

How can we fix poverty?

While poverty is a pretty tough thing to change, I feel like there are many ways that we as a nation can slowly make changes that are beneficial.

-Raising Minimum Wage ~ This has been a topic in a lot of the news articles recently and has also been a topic within my family. While I do realize how this can benefit people in poverty, I do also think that, over time, that increase in wage will increase the prices of everything else.

-Paid leave and Paid sickday ~ I feel like this would be a good way to lessen poverty. Because having children is a big hardship in families, it would be better to have these extra paychecks in order to keep these parents with a job and out of poverty.

-Affordable Child care ~ Many parents spend roughly one third of their paychecks, out of pocket, on child care and education alone. They do this just to be able to continue working. If child care was more affordable then many people would be able to continue working.
https://docs.google.com/drawings/d/1P3ALfJMIFPDV0FSDqC0lHzwQxREhT9logmjk5-xoJ-c/edit
