The 11th grade BioMed PBL is about the legacy of medicine in society. Students learn about how many scientific innovations were learned through unethical means, and how they continue to impact society and cause disparities in their communities. Students are asked to identify ways to improve their communities based on their findings.

Our students are presented with both small and large real world problems. The students need to analyze the problem and evaluate possible solutions. Students are encouraged to engage in scientific thinking as they both apply dive deeper into their understanding of science concepts. The school recognizes the importance of addressing crosscutting concepts and big ideas.

Students need to have practice in analyzing all kinds of graphs, charts and other visuals. Use Venn Diagrams and other thinking maps that help them visually organize analysis criteria.

Every year both of our robotics teams are presented brand new challenges to conquer. The teams do a deep analysis of the new games as no one has ever played them before. Teams have to evaluate what and how to design to this new challenge. Autonomous, scoring, End Game and other strategies need to be carefully examined to fully understand each of there ramifications to the overall success of the team.

Teams have to design, modify and build their robots for a new game nobody has competed in before without knowing what their competitors have built. They are trying to solve a new problem with new techniques or applying old techniques to a new problem. The teams build their own designs, not what the coach or mentors think they should build. The coaches just facilitate the process, while the students control the direction of the process.
